Superintendent's Update
November 22, 2024
FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT'S DESK
Dear Auburn Families and Staff,
The edition of the Superintendent's Update will be brief. However, given that Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the support you give to the Auburn Public Schools. We are so fortunate to live in a community that supports our work and we appreciate all of you! THANK YOU!
I would also like to express my gratitude for the administrators, teachers, counselors, social workers, nurses, support staff professionals, instructional assistants, ABAs, para professionals, cafeteria staff, custodians and everyone who is a part of the Auburn Public Schools team and have committed themselves to the students of Auburn. THANK YOU!
This week has been particularly challenging given the threatening behavior we have witnessed and that has been shared with you. I have stayed in Auburn for over 14 years because of the sense of community, for the care that folks show to one another both in school and in the greater community, for the empathy and kindness I have seen students show to one another repeatedly, for the care and concern our staff members demonstrate to one another, to our students and to our families. Auburn has been and will always be a special place for me....and I suspect it is that way for many of you too. We must work together to maintain the special, giving, caring supportive qualities that the Auburn community has always demonstrated. Seemingly, we may have bumps in the road, but I look forward to our continued work together to keep all of our kids and staff safe, supported, and accepted and thus, create a community where everyone can succeed.
On behalf of the amazing, Auburn Public Schools Nursing Team, I would ask that you take a moment to review the information they are sharing below.
I wish you all a safe, family filled, friend filled and fun filled Thanksgiving holiday.
Best,
Beth
MESSAGE FROM THE AUBURN PUBLIC SCHOOLS NURSING TEAM
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has reported that cases of walking pneumonia (mycoplasma pneumoniae) and whooping cough (pertussis) are spreading in Massachusetts, particularly among school age children and adolescents. We are continuously monitoring sickness in our schools and are taking precautions in preventing the spread of disease. If your child is exhibiting symptoms of a possible respiratory illness that includes a cough that is worsening or not improving with or without fever, please keep them home and contact their pediatrician.
Please see the links below for more information and reach out to your child's school nurse with any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
APS Nurses
