Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day! November 14, 2024
Ruby Bridges: Civil Rights Icon & Activist
On November 14, 1960, six-year-old first-grader Ruby Bridges stepped into the history books when she integrated William Frantz Elementary School. She was not looking to make history. She just wanted to go to school and have the opportunity to learn, and to do so safely. But her courageous action and historic steps initiated the desegregation of New Orleans’ public schools.
Now, more than 60 years later, Ruby is looking to make sure school-age kids around our nation have that same experience. Her vision is for them to become the next generation of leaders who create positive change in their communities, one step at a time.
Since 2018, student leaders have organized an annual walk to school day every November. This annual tradition is more than just a walk, it’s about inspiring students to find their passion and strength – one step at a time.
Please reach out to our office staff if you would like to lead a "walking" or "biking" Train on this day from a designated spot. Volunteers are encouraged!

November Reading Corner with Mrs. Winmill
Hello, amazing Hirsch Community Members! Our book fair was a huge success, thanks to all of you and the efforts you put into place. We were able to sell 1,025 books! We met our goal! Thank you so much for your support.
The week after the book fair, I showed most of the classes the website for the library. There are a number of useful links on the Destiny Discover page. Not only can students look to see what books we currently have in the library, they can see which books have recently been added to the collection and which books are being checked out frequently. There are Learning Resources as well on the Destiny Discover page. These Learning Resources will help your students with research for projects, to learn, and for fun. Please take a few minutes to browse through the Learning Resources, especially the Sora app. Students have access to e-books from FUSD and Alameda County Library. Students will need to log in with their Clever Credentials. They will then see this in the upper left corner.
They can then click on the carrot next to Fremont Unified School District. This will give them the option to select which library collection they would like to explore. Students will have access to grade-appropriate books between both library collections.
Please take a few minutes to explore the website.
Take care and keep reading!
Mrs. Kristen Winmill
Home Lunch Dropoff
Home lunches brought after your student has started school must be dropped off by 10:45 am to the cart outside the office. Your student's lunch should be clearly labeled with first name, last name, and room number. We highly encourage you to teach your child to be responsible and bring their own lunch daily if they are bringing a home lunch.
Counselor's Corner
Hello Families,
As we enter the month of November, we are excited to celebrate Thanksgiving and focus on the theme of gratitude with our students. This month, students will reflect on what they are thankful for to enhance an attitude of appreciation. Throughout the month, students will participate in activities to promote understanding and expression of gratitude. Our goal is to help them recognize the positive aspects of their lives, whether they are big or small. We encourage you to also participate in recognizing this month's theme at home by discussing what gratitude means to your family. Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you for your support!

Our next big event for the month of November is our school Fall Concert which will be on Nov 13 @ 6 pm at the Horner Gym. We will also be donating canned food to those who have need at this time of the year. There is a bin set up in the office for drop - off. Please do help if you can! We would really appreciate it!
