The Fowler Weekly
March 11-15, 2024
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,
We absolutely love our Fowler students, but I want to be transparent that we have been experiencing an increase in tardiness and other behaviors associated with disrespect within peer groups that sometimes cause disruptions in the halls and/or classrooms. We will be addressing these concerns with students next week to reset expectations around kindness, respect, and responsibility both through grade level assemblies and in individual classes. That said, we will be on a special schedule Monday, 3/11, to accommodate grade level assemblies. Please re-affirm these expectations at home and check the ParentVue App weekly to see if your child is making it to class on time. Students are always more regulated when they follow routines and being in class when instruction starts is the first step in understanding the curriculum and finding success.
Thank you and have a great week!
Andy
HAPPENINGS
This morning our clocks rolled forward one hour at 2am. This is typically the change that affects the school day most, and we tend to see students arrive at school late. This is a reminder to make sure you have moved your clocks forward one hour!
Last week was Classified Appreciation Week. And our Leadership students blessed the classified staff’s socks off with their original, time consuming, thoughtful portraits. Thank you, Leadership Students!
Congratulations to Fowler musicians, Ben Smith, Josh Phillips, Santiago Lanzas, James Archibald, and Desmond Vasicek, who all performed in the OMEA District 14 Middle School Honor Band in McMinnville on February 16 and 17. The band was comprised of about 85 students from OMEA's District 14, which includes the Lake Oswego, McMinnville, Newberg, Riverdale, Sherwood, Tigard-Tualatin, and West Linn-Wilsonville School Districts. Proud of you, Falcons!
This is the last week for Homework Help. After School Buses will continue to be available on the days our Affinity Groups meet. This week REAP will NOT meet. Mr. Devonte will be at a training for REAP all week.
We are hoping you are able to join us for the Hispanic Listening Session listed below! Be sure to RSVP if you are coming. Especially if you will need childcare.
The Lost & Found mountain has grown. (Not sure what’s bigger than a mountain but we are there!) Our fantastic PSO volunteer will be coming to remove the mountain on Thursday, March 21. That’s only 8 school days away. If you are missing jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles, socks, single shoes or anything…. encourage your student to look for it in The Commons Lost & Found. If there is something in particular you’d like to come in and look for, we invite you to do so between 8:30-10:30am or 1:00-3:30pm.
It hardly seems possible that it’s time to announce that Yearbooks are on sale, but they are! Yearbooks are sold on a prepay, first come/first serve basis and they are simple to purchase.
Yearbooks are handed out the last week of school.
You may send a check or cash for $30 with your student to turn in at the Main Office or you can click here and purchase the yearbook online.
PLEASE follow these instructions to be sure your student gets their yearbook:
When paying online you will need your student’s ID number and their legal last name as it appears on their school records (upper and lowercase sensitive).
If you have problems logging in please email smilettivega@ttsd.k12.or.us to have your password reset. PLEASE DO NOT set up a guest account.
6th GRADE PARENTS - OUTDOOR SCHOOL INFORMATION
It’s here! Week 1 Outdoor School (Science Teachers = Jacobs or Rendell) leaves this Tuesday!
DROP OFF: On Tuesday, March 12, students will need to be dropped off at school between 8:30-8:45am. Please do not drop off students early, as our buses will be arriving with our remaining 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. We encourage carpooling, if possible.
Students may NOT ride buses to school that day due to the bulkiness of their gear.
Here is a link to the Packing List in case you have misplaced it. The following items are NOT allowed: candy, gum, food, cell phones, electronics or money. It is important to clearly mark your student’s name on their gear. Please be sure to pack clothing, jackets and dry shoes for cold weather. Place the student’s gear on the luggage bus. (See Photo Below)
After dropping off their gear, students need to:
check-in with their Science teacher
TURN IN MEDICATIONS (in original containers)
Board their assigned bus.
For those students who have Jacobs or Rendell for Science, but are NOT going to Outdoor School, please come to school as normal. All students will begin their day in Miss Rendell’s room 24 for Morning Meeting.

- Thursday, March 14, 5:30-7:30pm, Tigard High, Forecasting Open House at Tigard High. Come ask your questions!

STATE TESTING
Federal and state mandatory testing is fast approaching.
Please ensure your students arrive on time with a charged iPad, get a good night of sleep, and please avoid making any appointments during this time.
Eighth grade students will be tested in Science on March 18, 19 & 20. All students will be taking the English Language Arts & Math assessment during the weeks of April 15th & 22nd. We rely on these assessments to assist with student placements, funding, and academic growth tracking. Eighth grade Science students will test during their regularly scheduled Science class. We will have a special schedule for all students on April 15th-26th (excluding Wednesday & April 19th) where they will test during their morning meeting group for an extended amount of time. Thank you for your support during this process.

DISTRICT NEWS
Tigard Turns the Tide, in partnership with TTSD, encourages you to have conversations with your child/ren about fentanyl. Fentanyl is a dangerous drug that is circulating in Washington County. A tiny amount of fentanyl — the size of two grains of salt — can be fatal.
Fentanyl is often disguised as “look alike” pills. Some teens buy or get pills from classmates and friends, or via social media connections. They might think these pills are drugs like Adderall, Percocet, Oxycodone, or Xanax. What they may get are fake pills containing fentanyl. Fentanyl can also be contained in street drugs such as methamphetamines, ecstasy and heroin.
Let your student know that any pill they don’t get from a pharmacy may contain fentanyl, which can be fatal. Even if the pill comes from a friend or classmate, it could have fentanyl in it.
The New Drug Talk offers helpful resources for starting the conversation. For more information about Fentanyl, go to songforcharlie.org.
If you are worried about your student or looking for resources, a good place to start is your student's school counselor.
You can find more resources on the TTSD website. The Tigard High School-Based Health Center (503-431-5775) is able to provide Alcohol and Drug Assessments for all TTSD students. Lastly, the Washington County Crisis & Consultation Line is available 24 hours a day at 503-291-9111.
