Board Member Tang Attends CTA SESCC Dinner
The ATA would like to thank Board Member Tang for attending this week’s CTA Southeastern Service Center Council (SESCC) School Board Dinner. It was an excellent opportunity to connect, share our perspectives, and discuss the issues that are most important to our schools and educators. We sincerely appreciate the time and effort dedicated to fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
Thank you to our school counselors for providing students of all ages with academic encouragement, social-emotional support, and college and career advice!

Ask ATA
Dear ATA,
My principal told me that I need to go in for a meeting with them. What should I do?
- A Concerned Unit Member
Dear Concerned Member,
If your principal has requested that you attend a meeting and are unsure what to do, it's important to know your rights. You are entitled to request ATA representation in any non-routine meeting with an administrator.
Before requesting representation, ask what the meeting is about. If you feel that the meeting is unusual and/or you might be asked questions that sound accusatory, ask for a union representative. Examples of such meetings would be: to answer questions about a parent or student concern, to explain your behaviors/actions in a meeting, etc.
If the meeting does not sound unusual, you do not need a union representative. However, if while at the meeting you feel that the tone changes and/or you are asked questions which make you uncomfortable, you have the right to stop the meeting and inform your admin that you will need to have an ATA representative present.
Your representative is there to witness the proceedings, to advocate for you, and to ensure you receive all the procedural rights you are entitled to. They will also be available to advocate for you before and after the meeting and to strategize on your behalf. And, if needed, to refer you to legal representation.
As always, your Association is here for you to serve as your advocate and resource. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Reminder for Educators: Monitor Your Credentials
It’s important to keep track of your certification credentials, as they serve as your official record. Make sure to renew them on time, as expired credentials may result in being sent home without pay until the renewal process is finalized.
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) has provided valuable resources to help you easily access your credential details. Please keep in mind that if you make any changes, updates, or corrections to your credentials, it may take up to three business days for those changes to be reflected on the website.
Requirement for Monthly Meetings and Collaboration Sessions
As per our agreement, Article XII—Unit Member Work Day Section E, every unit member is required to attend up to two (2) meetings per month. One of these two meetings should be held for collaboration purposes. Site staff development and collaboration shall be mutually developed by unit members and administration at a meeting with all staff by the beginning of the school year. Collaboration meetings should be conducted to maximize the time unit members spend collaborating with each other.
If this condition is not being met at your site, please discuss it with your site administrator and share this language with them. If necessary, we will follow up with an Association grievance.
