Social media is essential in our lives, offering connectivity, information, and creative
expression. However, it poses risks such as privacy breaches, mental health issues, and
misinformation. To use social media safely, regularly update privacy settings, think before
posting, verify information from multiple sources, and manage screen time. By being informed
and cautious, we can enjoy the benefits of social media while minimizing its risks, leading to a
safer and more positive experience.

From the office of Ms. Fairclough:
Dear Parents/Guardians:
June is Pride Month, a time for LGBTQ+ to gather and celebrate their freedom to live authentically. Pride is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots. At that time, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City staged an uprising to resist police harassment and persecution to which the LGBTA population was subjected. The uprisings mark the beginning of the movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBTQ Americans.
Today, celebrations such as parades, events, workshops, and more commemorate this time. And unfortunately, LGBTQ rights are under increased scrutiny in many states. Add to that, local and national surveys of youth behaviors show that LGBTQ youth are most at risk for depression, suicidality, bullying, and self harm behaviors (including substance use). At Keefe Tech, the People for LGBTQ+ Acceptance (PLA) club is an active resource for all students and meets most Thursdays after school. Each year PLA hosts a pride parade, which will occur this year on June 4 after school.
Many other agencies exist to receive fellowship and support. Attached you will find a brochure of state and local resources for LGBTQ teens.
Thank you,
Julia Fairclough LICSW, SAC

Each year, we place AmeriCorps Members (Fellows) at non-profit organizations, city agencies, and schools across Massachusetts to lead out-of-school time programming for youth in grades 6-12 focused on mentoring, academic enrichment, and college and career exploration. Throughout their service year, Fellows also receive training and professional development from MPF, gaining valuable career skills and experience. This is a great opportunity for those looking for a meaningful gap year experience or to jumpstart their career after high school.
The application for the 2024-2025 service year is currently open and they are recruiting for up to 30 service positions in Boston, Framingham, Marlborough, Stoughton and Springfield. I’ve attached our flyer to this email and our website can be found here.
