Mrs. Jerde's News
Dear Hornet Families,
As we wrap up the first quarter of the school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful progress our students have made and share some exciting updates.
Highlights from the First Quarter:
- Academic Achievements: Our students have been diving into new subjects with enthusiasm and curiosity. From exploring exciting science experiments to mastering new math concepts, it’s been a joy to see their growth and enthusiasm.
- Portraits of A Learner: The students have been buzzing with showing off their Portraits of a Learner Traits! Our students have showcased the traits of adaptability, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, empathy, and global citizenship in all aspects of their learning.
- Community Building: Our recent school events, including Back to School Night, Pool Party, Dback Game and Parent-Teacher Conferences, were fantastic opportunities to connect with families and celebrate our school community. Your support and participation are greatly appreciated.
Looking Ahead: As we move into the second quarter, we’re excited to continue nurturing your child’s academic and personal growth. We have some engaging activities and events planned and we hope to see everyone there. Please watch for information on our upcoming events.
A Few Reminders:
- Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for your child’s success. Please ensure your child is in class on time each day and for every class.
- Communication: We value open communication with our families. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Parent Square is the best way to communicate with the COA staff.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we are making a positive impact on our students' lives. Here’s to a successful and exciting second quarter!

STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOCUS
Reminder to Parents
Please remember to update and fill out the Annual Updates for your student. These are found in the Annual emergency and Health Update and follow the these steps:
Orientation in Buzz
New Students Only
Please complete the Orientation in Buzz to learn how to navigate our technology. All students must complete this orientation by watching the videos and completing the assessments before any students starts school.
To log into Buzz, please go to:
Username: s+ID#@gse.cusd80.com (s123456@gse.cusd80.com)
Password: s+ID# + ! (s123456!)
All students will be forced to change their Google password to a new, secure password (at least 8 characters, upper and lower case, number, symbols, etc...) as soon as they log in with this generic password. Until they do so, they will not be able to log into technology.
*Once logged into your district email account you will then click on the 9 dots in upper right corner and open the google apps. Scroll down until you see the app that says Buzz COA or your home school site.
If you are already logged into a Google email account, you must logout of that account before establishing this new account.
*Please note: Student Google accounts (GSE) are for educational purposes only and students should not be saving personal/inappropriate content on this account.
Attendance
It's that time of the year again. A friendly reminder that Attendance is due before 10pm Sunday nights. If you haven't completed it by then, you will receive an automated email with a list of the dates that attendance is missing. This includes weekends. You can enter zero minutes for any day (including weekends and holidays) that you did not do school work. This will prevent the unwanted reminder email.
The expectation that was in your Student Success Contract is an average of 5 hours/weekday for Kindergarten - 3rd grade students, and and average of 6 hours/weekday for 4th-6th grade students.
You aren't able to enter future dates, but you DO have the ability to enter attendance as far as two weeks in the past. If you need to make a correction to a date that you already submitted (green on the attendance calendar), please email our registrar, Christine Rose. rose.christine@cusd80.com
Detailed instructions are on our Elementary Connect website, under Tutorials.
