Join Us for Love Vinewood
Come join Vinewood families in our biannual school beautification day! This is a great opportunity for our students to take pride in their school by cleaning up trash, leaves, and taking part in our Vinewood Elementary community. Please come with gloves, brooms, and any gardening tools that may be helpful. Water and snacks will be provided. We are excited for another great Love Vinewood event, in coordination with Love Lodi. See you there, Saturday, April 27th from 9 a.m. -12 p.m.

Upcoming State Testing for 3rd - 6th Grade
As you may already know, we, along with the rest of public schools across California, will be participating in comprehensive year-end assessments of grade-level learning that measure progress toward college and career readiness. English‒language arts (ELA) and mathematics are comprised of two parts: (1) a computer adaptive test and (2) a performance task. The computer adaptive section includes a range of item types, such as selected response, constructed response, table, fill-in, graphing, and so forth. The PTs are extended activities that measure a student’s ability to integrate knowledge and skills across multiple standards—a key component of college and career readiness. These tests are known as the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) which is the major component of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).
These computer-based tests are aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English and math, which California adopted in 2010 to describe what knowledge and skills students need to be well prepared for college and careers, no matter where they come from or where they live across America.
In 2022-2023, Vinewood improved from 59.34% (2021-2022) to 62.79% of the tested students scoring exceeding or meeting standards in ELA and 56.33% (2021-2022) to 61.34% in math. Both scores were the highest out of 32 elementary schools (excluding Elkhorn Elementary) in the district. We are very proud of our students for their academic achievement and excellence.
Our teachers will be administering the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) Test to 3rd through 6th grade students from 4/29 – 5/3. Make up test sessions for students who were absent for any portion of SBA will be 5/6 – 5/10. Fifth graders will be the only grade level to take California’s Science Test (CAST) on 5/3.
Here’s what you can do to help prepare your child for success.
1. Please make sure your child’s chromebook is fully charged every day during the week of testing (4/24-4/28).
2. A good night’s sleep before the test helps your child do his/her best on a test.
3. Eat a healthy breakfast. Test taking uses a lot of energy. Our cafeteria serves breakfast between 7:45-8:15 daily.
4. Make sure your child is on time for school as testing occurs in the morning.
5. Encourage your child to do his/her best; even if the questions seem hard, to keep trying and don’t give up; let your child know that this test can be hard, but that taking the state test gives him/her a chance to show how much he/she can do. Remind your child that he or she is not expected to know the answer to every question.
If you want to see what type of questions students will be asked or how the test will be presented, there is a practice test available online at http://caaspp.org/practice-and-training/index.html. Then, click on “Student Interface Practice and Training Test” and sign in as a guest. The scoring guide (answers) can be found in the same link but click on “Test Administrator Resources.” Also, you can go to https://www.caaspp.org/ta-resources/parent-resources.html for additional parent resources.
