Principal's Desk
Dear CMIT South Elementary Families,
As we continue our journey through this academic year, I'm reminded of President Barack Obama's inspiring words: "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." Your continued support and partnership in our children's education exemplify this spirit of positive change and growth.
I'm delighted to share both important updates and recent highlights from our vibrant school community:

Yearbook Cover Contest
The Yearbook Cover Contest is Back!

Yearbook Cover Entry Requirements:
* Must have school name: CMIT South Elementary School.
* Must have the school year: 2024-2026.
* Must include or mention the school theme: TIGERS ROAR!
* All designs should be vertical (portrait size) and 8x5” x 11”.
* Submissions must be sent electronically.
* Must be an original idea, the more creative, the better!
* Hand drawn designs must be scanned as a photo and at a resolution of at least 500 dpi.
* Please include the students full name, grade and classroom with submission.
* No pictures of designs will be accepted.
* Use markers or bold coloring pencils, outline the design in black sharpie.
* Do not submit scanned designs on line paper, use plain white paper.
* Designs can also be computer created and sent via pdf.
* One submission per student.
* Late submissions will not be accepted.
***All submissions should be scanned and sent to pto@cmitsouthes.org***
***A Parental Consent Form must accompany all Yearbook Cover Submissions***
Cover Tips:
Use Rich Colors: The more color depth and contrast in your artwork, the better your cover will reproduce. Subtle colors may lose some detail in the printing process. Certain solid ink colors, such as navy, black and forest green, do not work well when placed next to each other.
Use Full-size Images: Images that have been reduced by photocopying or with photo-editing software will not always reproduce well. For best results, always use full-size artwork.
Use Thick Lines: For best results, be sure that outlines are thick. Thin outlines created with pencil will not reproduce completely.
Avoid Metallic: Glitter and metallic foils do not reproduce well when printed. These materials often appear black with little hint of color. Fluorescent inks will not reproduce well and should be avoided.
Computer-Generated Art: If you are submitting artwork that has been created on a computer, be sure image resolution is at least 250 dpi and that line art has a resolution of at least 500 dpi.
***By entering the Yearbook Cover Contest, the CMIT South Elementary PTO reserves the right to publish your child’s artwork in the yearbook***.
If you have any questions, please contact the PTO at pto@cmitsouthes.org.

Additionally, please note that teachers and staff are unable to participate in distributing communications/invitations or email addresses related to birthday celebrations. All planning for birthdays needs to happen outside of school so that it does not take away from the purpose of instruction.

Counselor's Corner
As the winter months continue, we have noticed an increase in emotional regulation challenges among our students. The shorter days, colder weather, and limited outdoor activities can contribute to feelings of sadness, frustration, and anxiety. Seasonal depression, or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), is not just something adults experience—children can be affected as well. It’s essential that we provide them with the tools and space to manage their emotions in a healthy way. One great way to do this is by creating a Calming Corner at home.
What is a Calming Corner?
A Calming Corner is a designated space in your home where your child can go to regulate their emotions and practice self-soothing techniques. It is not a place for punishment but rather a supportive space to help them regain control when feeling overwhelmed.
Why is a Calming Corner Important?
Encourages emotional regulation and self-awareness
Provides a safe space for children to process feelings
Helps reduce tantrums, meltdowns, and frustration
Fosters independence in managing emotions
How to Create a Calming Corner at Home:
Choose a Quiet Spot: Find a small area in your home where your child can relax without distractions.
Add Comfortable Seating: A soft chair, bean bag, or cushions can make the space inviting.
Include Sensory Tools: Items such as stress balls, fidget toys, soft blankets, and calming jars can provide comfort.
Provide Emotional Regulation Resources: Books about feelings, deep breathing posters, and emotion charts can help children understand and name their emotions.
Encourage Mindfulness Practices: Teach simple breathing exercises, stretching, or listening to calming music to help reset their mood.
If you feel that your child is struggling with emotional regulation, please don’t hesitate to reach out for additional resources and strategies. By working together, we can create a supportive environment both at home and at school that fosters resilience, self-regulation, and overall well-being for our students.

KVS
KVS is our school's dismissal tool for car riders. All parents MUST fill out their KVS number when picking up their scholar. It is imperative that numbers are entered once you reach the car line. If your scholar is a car rider, please take time to help him or her practice memorizing his or her number as this will make the dismissal process much quicker!
Important Forms to Complete
We are going digital!!! Don't forget to complete your Emergency Contact and Pick List, Student Publicity Release Form, and Parent Compact form for each of your scholars.
