The Raptor Report
May 2024
From the Principal
Happy Spring! The warmer weather is finally starting to arrive and will give us the momentum we need to finish the school year strong. Our teachers and students have been working very hard. With the end of the year approaching, we will continue to hold high expectations for academics, behavior and attendance. Teachers will continue to hold students accountable for daily assigned homework and reading. We still have a lot of teaching and learning left to do.
Thank you in advance to all the parent volunteers who are making the school dance and basket raffle unforgettable. We are truly blessed to have such supportive and generous parents. The all-school dance is set for Saturday, May 18th from 6-8pm. Please mark your calendars.
We have some big events left to close the school year. One Book One School takes place from May 13th - May 24th. Friday, May 31st will be Olympic and New Games Day. The Student Recognition and Awards Assembly will occur on June 6th at 2:30pm. Our 6th grade sendoff will be held on June 7th at 9am. More information will be sent home as these days approach. Please stay tuned and look for more opportunities to volunteer. Our Raptor Way Committee is also planning an all-school event to celebrate good behavior throughout the last trimester.
Lastly, I want to thank you all for your help and support this year. I appreciate all the families, staff, and community volunteers who make Rolling Hills a great place to learn, work, and grow. I can honestly say that Rolling Hills Elementary is a prime example of “students, staff, and community…building better schools together!”

Mrs. Coopman could use your help in scanning part of the 13,000+ materials in the library. If you have any availability to come scan & organize books during the month of May or June, please email Mrs. Coopman at coopmti@masd.k12.wi.us. Thank you for your consideration!
One Book, One School- Kickoff May 2024
RHES will be participating in their eighth annual One Book, One School event.
The WHOLE school will be reading one book!
The title is still a mystery, but copies will be purchased for every student TO KEEP!
If you would like to contribute $1 towards the cost of your child(ren)’s book, please send it to school labeled with “OBOS” (One Book, One School) by March 1st.
Thank you!
Coming May 13th!
RHES will be participating in their annual One Book, One School event
What is One Book, One School?
Rolling Hills is pleased to announce that we will share the joy of literacy together this year. We are embarking on a special project, an all-school reading experience. We are inviting all Kindergarten through 6th grade students, faculty, staff, and parents to read ONE BOOK together. The title will be shared at our kickoff and all students will receive their own copy of the book!
Why One Book?
Reading as a community creates excitement, engagement, and a support for literacy. It fosters the development of a lifelong love of reading. Reading together promotes discussion, increases comprehension, and challenges our thinking. We will celebrate literacy through an assembly, discussions, activities, and shared reading. This year’s book will be completed in 2 weeks with school-wide and classroom events taking place within that time, including a special guest visitor!
How Does It Work?
Each student will receive a copy of the book! Students in grades K-1 will most likely be reading it as a whole class, as grades 2-6 will be reading together and individually. Students will read the book at school AND at home. Bookmarks will be sent home with reading assignments and discussion questions for your family.
How Can I Help?
Get your child excited about reading together! You will get more specific information as the date gets closer and your copy of the book comes home! Also, when the event starts be sure to clarify with your child whether their class should be bringing books home and back to school each day (this will vary by class and grade level).
In addition, if you have not and you would like to donate $1 towards the cost of your child(ren)’s book, feel free to mark an envelope with OBOS (One Book, One School) and send it to the office as soon as possible. These donations help offset the cost of the books, as well as trivia prizes, and all school event supplies.
Thank you for supporting your child’s reading!
School Counselor Note
Dear Families,
The last month of May is an exciting time in SEL. We have covered a lot of serious topics throughout the year, so we look forward to May when we get to talk about Careers.
At the elementary level, we keep the topic of careers interesting and fun. We want to encourage kids to explore the working world around them. We start to discuss the careers they see everyday in school, in the community, and through conversations at home. I encourage kids to always be learning and open minded about the possibilities for their future jobs.
Through literature, real-life scenarios, self-reflection, and games we will explore skill building, tools required, responsibilities, interests, and strengths related to the world of work. The activities help students build self-knowledge and explore their options. It is important for students to take ownership in planning for their future, and the caring adults in their life play an essential supporting role. I am looking forward to our fun career activities in the month of May.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to reach out!
Thank you all for a great school year! Have a wonderful summer break!

Here Comes Summer!
We have two Spirit Days in May. Monday, May 13 is Bring Your Favorite Stuffed Animal Day and Friday, May 31 is Olympic Day.
Also, Our “Weeks of Spirit” will begin on Friday, May 17. We will start our countdown with one spirit day the first week and as we get closer to the last week of school, we will add a spirit day each week until the last week of school! We will have a total of 10 spirit days. Student Council members are very excited to introduce these days soon. We’re looking forward to these days to get us excited for summer and show school spirit.
Thank you for all your support this year!
The Raptor Way
During announcements in May, Dr. Schlicht will be talking about Perseverance and Self-Control . Perseverance is continuing to work toward a goal even if there is a delay in getting it, or a difficulty in achieving it. When you persevere you set a goal for yourself and you work hard to reach that goal. You try your best. Self-control is the ability to stop and think before acting. When we stop and think before we do something, we make much better decisions and choices throughout our day. Before you speak or act, think: is it kind, is it helpful, and is it necessary. What goals can we make for ourselves before the end of the school year?
The ROAR store will be closing mid May! Students will still have several opportunities to shop before it closes. If your child has any ideas for the ROAR store for next year, have them write it down and get their ideas to Ms. Napierala. The ROAR store team will be working hard to get the store ready for next year! Don’t worry, students will still earn ROAR cards until the end of the year. We will have a special SUMMER RAFFLE drawing in June. ROAR cards will NOT carry over to the following school year, so we are encouraging students to shop when they are given the opportunity.

* * * NEXT MEETING WEDNESDAY, May 8, 2024 - 6:00 p.m. * * *
(Rolling Hills Library)
Hello Rolling Hills Families,
Thank you to those who attended and volunteered at Movie Night in April. This was a fun night enjoyed by many families!
The old saying goes "April showers bring May flowers"... and a very busy schedule for the PTO! We are excited for an event packed May celebrating a great school year!
First up is Staff Appreciation Week! We are excited to kick off this week on Sunday, May 5th with a chalk to walk event. We will have buckets of chalk outside at Rolling Hills for families to draw a picture or write a positive message for our staff as they arrive at school on Monday. Chalk will be put outside by 9am and left out throughout the day. This event is weather permitting, so check the Rolling Hills Elementary PTO Facebook page for weather updates. We are looking for volunteers to assist students in writing Thank You Cards for staff on Wednesday, May 8th, so please consider donating your time to make sure our staff know how appreciated they are! We are looking forward to celebrating the amazing staff at Rolling Hills throughout the week! If you would like to contribute additional funds to this effort you can do so via Venmo @RHES-PTO.
The Rolling Hills PTO has been busy preparing for this year's Raffle Basket and School Dance!. Thank you to all the volunteers collecting donations, puting baskets together, and volunteering your time at these events. For more information on how to donate to your child's grade level basket, visit the Rolling Hills Elementary Facebook Page. We are looking for volunteers to help sell raffle tickets and help with events at the dance, please consider volunteering for the raffle basket and dance. We're excited to see your moves and raise money for our school!
Each year the sixth grade class celebrates the end of their elementary school journey with a fun field trip. PTO helps sponsor this event by providing funds to help cover the cost of class t-shirts and a tailgate prior to the Brewer Game they attend. We are working to set up a "pay it forward" volunteer system for this event. We are looking for five parents from fifth and five parents from fourth grades to help make this event epic for the sixth graders and their families. Volunteers need to be available for one meeting in early May and from 8am-1pm on Wednesday, May 15th. This group will host the tailgate before the game. The goal is to make this event repeatable each year with minimal planning knowing that when your child participates in sixth grade they too will have a wonderful experience. Please Sign Up here to help!
Did you know that Rolling Hills Elementary PTO has a Scholarship Program for Rolling Hills Alumni Graduating Seniors? Probably not, because it's brand new this year! We are excited to be awarding two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors this year!
Our next meeting is Wednesday, May 8th at 6:00pm in the Rolling Hills Library. We will be voting for new board members at this meeting and will be discussing next school year. Hope to see many of you there!
