THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK

Wasco Weekly
May 16, 2025
Dear Wasco Parents and Families,
We are excited to show families the results of our most recent Social Emotional Learning survey. At Wasco our committee is led by the Principal, Student Services Interventionist, Social Worker, School Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, and LRC Director. They meet weekly to review our programming and data and then meet with the larger school team to organize our school programming.
Our goals with our programming are to shape the culture of our school and ensure our environment supports students in positive ways, reinforcing their academic and social skills. The survey for parents is our team’s willingness to be open to feedback and learning from all stakeholders how to make a bigger impact and ensure our school is living our strategic plan and school values.
Parents, your voice matters! We appreciate the time you give to respond to surveys or communicating with school staff to share your observations of your child(ren). It makes a difference to us!
With kindness,
Mrs. Brennan

**Nutritional Thoughts from Organic Life**
Nutrient-dense foods help kids reach their daily nutrition needs while curtailing overall calories. Prioritize these nutrient-dense foods in your child’s diet:
· Fruits and vegetables are great options in fresh, canned, frozen, or dried forms. Select canned fruit that is labeled “light” or packed in its own juice to minimize sugar. You can also achieve one serving of fruit with just 1/4 cup of dried fruit. Look for low-sodium options when selecting canned or frozen vegetables, and bear in mind that peas, beans, and colorful vegetables are always a good option.
· Eggs, beans, seafood, lean meat and poultry, soy products, peas, and unsalted nuts or seeds are all great protein sources.
· When selecting bread, pasta, brown or wild rice, popcorn, oatmeal, or quinoa, opt for whole grains to maximize health benefits.
· Dairy products such as yogurt, milk, and cheese should be fat-free or low-fat, and remember that fortified soy beverages count toward your child’s dairy intake.
Attention 4th-Graders! Get Ready to Join the Band!
Have you ever wanted to learn a band instrument? You're in luck, because all 4th-graders will have the opportunity to try out the band instruments in late May! These instruments include the flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion. Students will be able to try the instruments under the supervision of the band director to decide if they would like to join the program next year. All instruments are sanitized between individual students.
The band program pulls students once per week for a 40-minute small group lesson during the school day. These lesson times rotate each week so that the same material isn't missed from the classroom. Band students will also be committing to one morning rehearsal per week before school. These morning rehearsals are a mandatory part of the program, and parents must provide transportation to school on these mornings.
If you would like to opt out of trying the band instruments, please fill out this brief form.
We look forward to exploring the many band instruments with your child soon! If you're interested in learning about the instruments and seeing some videos, please visit our recruitment website HERE. If you have questions about the program, please contact your school's band director:
