Reynolds' Report
Hello Roadrunner Families!
Are you looking for new ways to volunteer on campus this year to support your student and their learning? Check out the Sign Up Genius linked below to see the school-wide opportunities to volunteer on campus!
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050849AAA92DA6FC1-51085554-september
While all lunch room volunteers need a valid TB test on file with the office, there are no clearance requirements for PTO, School Site Council, or English Language Advisory Committee participation.
Childcare and dinner will also be provided for all School Site Council and English Language Advisory Committee meetings.
It is important to our campus to have parent voice and support for our students. We hope you'll be able to join us some time this month to volunteer and enjoy a little bit of the joy we have each day on our campus!
Have a wonderful week, Roadrunners!

Topic of the Week
Managing Big or Uncomfortable Feelings Using Our Breath
In this week's assembly, we started talking about strategies to manage big or uncomfortable feelings. Over the next few weeks, we will explore a variety of strategies to help us when our feelings become big or uncomfortable. The goal of this is to help students learn to self-regulate so that when their emotions get big, they feel empowered to calm themselves and be ready for learning again!
Check out the three breathing techniques we practiced this week!

Updates and Important Information
Meet Our Staff : Aaron Kinz!
Meet Mr. Kinz! He is our new 5th grade teacher! It has been so much fun watching Mr. Kinz build relationships with his students. Every time I go into the classroom the kiddos are all so excited to be learning! It's been a great start to the year, Mr. Kinz!
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I am Aaron Kinz, I have two wonderful kids and my wife and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary in August. I was born and raised in Sacramento and have lived in Roseville for almost 20 years now.
Why did you decide to work in education?
I worked in the computer and technology industry for 15 years and finally realized that the calling to be an educator had happened many times. In all of my technology jobs I took on the role of trainer or educator. Unfortunately, I am a bit stubborn and did not realize the calling for 15 years.
What is your favorite thing about your career?
My favorite aspect of being a teacher is experiencing the successes of my students and any of the students I work with. That is the most satisfying part of my job and it is what I was hoping for when I started out to become an educator. I wanted to feel like I made a difference when I came home at the end of the day. Ultimately, I want every student I come in contact with to realize their potential. It does not matter who you are or where you come from, if you want to do or be something, you can!
What was your favorite part about being in elementary school?
My teachers. I can give you the name of every teacher I had from Kindergarten through 6th grade. I also have a fond memory of my principal as well. The teacher that had the biggest impact on me was my 4th/5th grade teacher, Mrs. Cooper. She moved from 4th to 5th grade with my class. She is amazing!
What is your favorite color?
Silver
What is your favorite food?
Mexican food (Tacos, Pupusas, Burritos, Enchiladas, Tamales). I am honestly not sure if there is a Mexican food dish that I don't like. I like it spicy too.
What is your favorite pet?
I love cats and dogs although my cat Moxie makes me lean more towards cats. I also love guinea pigs. I had on in my 4th grade classroom and I even got to take him home at the end of the year. His name was Rambo and he was awesome!

September 4th : PTO Meeting, 6:00pm, Library
We hope you will consider joining us for our first official PTO meeting of the year! We are working on getting committees set up so that people can help in ways that are low demand, but high impact on our campus events.

September 12th : Coffee Chat with Ms. Reynolds, 8:15am-9:15am, Cafeteria
Coffee chats are always one of my favorite events in the month. I love hearing from parents who come with great ideas to improve our campus. Want to hear what is going on around our school? Have a question you'd like answered in person? Craving coffee and a treat in the morning? Swing by for a chat!
September 12th : English Language Advisory Committee Meeting, 6:00pm-7:00pm, Library
This is one of the most important meetings of the year. Box Tops for Education
Box Tops for Education
Box Tops collection continues digitally all year with the Box Tops app. First Street School gets $0.10 for each Box Top scanned for our school. While that isn't much on its own, the whole school community collecting them from Participating Products throughout the year can earn enough to pay for things like software memberships, supplies for classroom activities, or other low cost school support.
- Earn Box Tops for participating products by scanning receipts with the Box Tops app.
- When you shop online or use delivery services, you can earn Box Tops by forwarding your e-receipt to receipts@boxtops4education.com or by uploading it with the Box Tops app. Learn more about submitting e-receipts here.

Updated COVID Protocols
Student Quarantine:
Effective this year, California Department of Public Health has replaced most of the requirements about student quarantine with recommendations. The one remaining requirement is that students who are ill must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aide of fever-reducing medications before they are able to return to school. Please see the documents below for more detailed information.
