Happy February ROCS Community!
We appreciate your support as we roll out 2022!
As we enter into February, the kindness month, I wanted to share with our community that our dedicated staff is working consistently on creating a thriving learning environment where students are seen and heard, behaviors are taught explicitly, and academics are engaging and relevant.
We understand that this is a transitional year for many students and staff, and we are dedicated to using the systems that still work from our successful history as a school, and integrate this with what we currently observe and learn about our students, to plan frameworks and supports for years to come that will promote a positive school culture and fulfill our vision, mission and community-centered goals.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns, comments and even appreciations!
I appreciated the community feedback in the Mid-Year survey, and I will be sharing it with staff and then reaching out for a community zoom as we start planning for they year ahead, sometime in March.
We are here to learn and grow together, and your communication is valuable to our team!
With Appreciation,
Kristi McCullough

River Oak Vs Anderson Valley Basketball Report (Monday, Jan 31st, 2022)
The girls game began with both teams playing great defense. Anderson Valley had only a 6-4 lead at halftime. The Firebirds then started pressing the Cougars. River Oak stole the ball many times and had some open lay-ups, which they capitalized on. The Firebirds kept the momentum going and stayed ahead the rest of the game.
When asked what adjustment was made after halftime, Kaylee Maynard, who had 12 points, said “I think pressing really helped so we could just steal the ball and we were being more aggressive.”
The boys A team game also started off with a close match. Eventually, River Oak was able to play more as a team and create a lead that they maintained the rest of the game. A key reason the Firebirds won was due to their free throw shooting. As a team, they made 8-11 from the strike.
When asked what was key in building a bigger lead in a game, Geo Gibbs, who had 18 points said, “We got warmed up and got going.” Zach Martinez, who contributed 15 points in the game, added, “Pressuring the ball and going for more fast breaks definitely helped us gain that lead.”
