Special Thank you to Mrs. Dalton, Reach Church of the Nazarene, and Wilson's Bakery for helping make Hotdog We're Reading a huge success.
Accelerated Reader or AR is a reading program we use at Parkwood to help encourage us to read lots of books and to check our understanding of what we read.
Students in grades 2nd - 5th work on this independently.
Students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade complete AR with their class.
Students take quizzes on books from the library, IRAs, and classroom library books
You must make a 70% or higher to earn points for the quiz.
You only have 1 chance to take a quiz on a book. Take the quiz no more than 1 or 2 days after you finish the book.
You only take quizzes on books you recently read. You can’t take quizzes on books from last school year or books that have been made into movies and you just watched the movie.
You must take the quizzes at school during school hours.
Don’t cheat because if you do, you won’t be able to get any more prizes or attend the AR celebration at the end of the year!
You must not share answers to quizzes with others. And you must not look up answers to quizzes online.
You get to pick prizes off the AR cart MONTHLY for every point club you obtain. That means you’ll get your first prize at 5 points, then 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, then every ten points 40, 50, 60, all the way to 100. We have free books, candy, and chips (like takis) on the cart.
The end of the year goal depends on your grade level.
2nd Grade - 30
3rd Grade - 40
4th Grade - 50
5th Grade - 60
If you reach your grade level’s AR goal by May 2nd, you get to attend the AR end of the year celebration.
Lastly, how do you find AR?
First you log in to your chromebook and to your dashboard.
Then you go to Clever and click on the AR icon.
Use your username and password that you use for signing in to your chromebook to log in to AR.
THANK YOU for encouraging students to participate in AR regularly throughout the year! Please reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas!
