Upcoming Early Release for Elementary = Late Dismissal for SKG Students
Wednesday, October 23th, and Thursday, October 24th, are early release days for our elementary and middle schools which means that we will release later than our normal 2:10 PM release time. Please expect buses to be a little later on these days.
PM Bus Departures
As a reminder, at the end of the day, students are to report directly from class to their assigned bus for departure. Buses will start engines at 2:15 PM and close their doors at 2:17 PM (with the exception of early release days later this week). Once the doors are closed, students will not be able to board and will need to secure alternate transportation to get home. Buses will leave promptly at 2:18 PM each day. Please contact AP Chris Bess if you have any questions at chris.bess@gcpsk12.org or (678) 288-0834.
PSAT/NMSQT
All 10th grade & 11th grade students, as well as 9th grade students who registered by Sept. 15th, will take the PSAT on October 29th from 7:10 - 11:30 AM. Students should arrive on time. Check-outs will not be permitted during this time. Bring a fully charged GCPS Chromebook and charger.
The PSAT is an excellent primer for the SAT, and even the ACT, but it's more than just a trial run. PSAT scores are used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships.
The Importance of Regular School Attendance
Students, we would like to remind you of the critical role that regular school attendance plays in your academic success.
Consistent attendance allows you to:
- Keep up with daily lessons and academic performance.
- Develop essential social skills and peer relationships.
- Participate in extracurricular activities that enrich your educational experience.
Missing school can lead to gaps in knowledge that become harder to fill as time goes on. Let's work together to ensure that you are here each day and benefit fully from the opportunities available at SKG.
Excused Absences:
A student must bring a written note from the parent/guardian or healthcare provider providing an explanation for an absence. Notes must be turned in to the Attendance Office, and excused notes can be emailed to seckingerattendance@gcpsk12.org. Check-out notes for student drivers may not be emailed. After ten parent excuse notes in a school year, the school may request additional documentation, including doctor’s notes, to continue to excuse absences and tardies.
SKG Students Pledge Against Gun Violence
"The Student Pledge Against Gun Violence began in 1996, supported by unanimous U.S. Senate Resolution and Presidential Proclamation, both calling for a Day of National Concern about Young People and Gun Violence and national distribution of the Student Pledge.
Participation in the Student Pledge sends an important message: that violence is neither inevitable nor an abstract force against which young people are powerless. Violence is, rather, the sum total of individual decisions, and reversing the violence will occur individual decision by individual decision. The Day of National Concern honors the role that young people themselves can play in helping to reverse violence. Since 1996, more than 10 million students have signed the Student Pledge." -https://www.pledge.org/day-of-national-concern
