October 8th-15th SNYM News
Welcome to the St. Nick's Youth Ministry Weekly Update
It was wonderful to receive so much positive feedback for this newsletter! I will continue to publish weekly, but some weeks will be jam-packed, while others may have a little less. Regardless of the amount, my goal is for it to always keep you informed about our middle and high school youth groups. -Beth
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Oct 22nd - There will be no RE classes.
(due to the Engagement Encounter)
Oct 29th - All Saints Celebration for RE classes.
This applies to the MIDDLE SCHOOL/ EDGE GROUP.
MIDDLE SCHOOL/ EDGE GROUP
RECAP FOR OCT. 8
We completed our first session of Symbolon, The Journey of Faith. Youth were given handouts to take home with a Parent Sheet (covering Session 1), and a visual aid for the Holy Trinity.
We learned more about the Holy Trinity and each student made their own Trinity Bracelets.
We finished by being reminded of what we had learned in this session and the youth each shared ways of how we can follow God with our faith.
COMING UP ON OCT. 15
We will begin by preparing for and attending Adoration as a class.
We will then start the first half of our second session of Symbolon, Divine Revelation.
We will watch 2 short videos, discuss, play a game, and more!

HIGH SCHOOL/ YOUTH GROUP
RECAP FOR OCT. 8
We began our afternoon with a delicious potluck in the Social Hall, provided by the youth! While we ate we watched the Story of the Rosary, learning about it's origin and it's significance, and (for many in the group) hearing about the Battle of Lepanto for the first time. So of course we had to play Human Battleship! Next, we returned to the Youth Room to watch a more detailed video explaining the miraculous victory of the Battle of Lepanto, and made our own battleships (origami sailboats). *links to all videos below photos*
COMING UP ON OCT. 15
We will begin by preparing to attend Adoration as a group.
Adoration will begin promptly at 4:30pm with Father Welcome.
We will then learn about St. Teresa of Avila.
Then we will have some fun QFT!
*Quality FRIEND Time*
This year we will not be using a specific curriculum or program, but instead will cover many areas of Faith with the input of the group. Along with learning more about a Saint each week, I have asked the youth to propose topics that interest them. We will conduct activities in line with all of this to include crafts, games, social events, and service projects.
LOOKING FORWARD
ALL SAINTS CELEBRATION, OCT 29
We need at least 6 teens from the High School Youth Group to assist at the All Saints Celebration, during RE (10:30-11:45am) on Sunday, Oct 29th.
We had that many (maybe more) interested by a raise of hands when this need was announced last Sunday.
If your teen can participate in this act of service for our parish, please encourage them to sign up on the volunteer sheet I will have available this Sunday at Youth Group.
CORE TEAM MEMBERS & VOLUNTEERS
Ideally we would have a Core Team consisting of at least 4-6 volunteers (preferably more), allowing for 1-2 assistants present for youth group activities one Sunday per month.
INFORMATION
REQUIRED BY THE DIOCESE
All youth ministry volunteers must have current certification for the course of Serving Vulnerable Populations and a Criminal History Record Check on file with the Diocese.
More information can be found by visiting Adult Training on the Diocese of Fairbanks website.

CONFIRMATION
No class this week.
Next class on Sunday Oct. 22nd at 1:30pm in the Great Room.
It is mandatory for both the Catholic parent and candidate to attend the sessions.
PLEASE KEEP PHONE USE TO A MINIMUM DURING GROUP
Unfortunately, phone usage is creating distractions and taking away from our short time together, not only for the owners of the phones, but for everyone in the group.
I will be asking that phones be put away for brief periods as we conduct our planned activities. I will provide phone breaks between activities, allowing time for phone usage.
Phones WILL NOT be confiscated, and will remain in the possession of owners at all times.
MEETING TIME CHANGED FOR HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP
There may be some occasions where we will have additional times to meet, but this time will remain in place coinciding with all RE Sunday's.
We look forward to using the church more freely, being able to participate in events and service projects in the community, and allow families to be together for dinner!
It is a privilege to work with St. Nick's Youth!
As always, please never hesitate to contact me for any reason. I pray you are having a blessed week.
In Christ's love, Beth
