Keefe Regional Technical School
June 14, 2024
To the Keefe Tech Community,
I would like to express my gratitude to our entire community as we come to the end of a fantastic year. Our students have achieved incredible success in their academic courses, career and technical programs, activities, athletics and their service to the community. The plans of our most recent graduates from the Class of 2024 set an example for generations of Keefe Tech students who will follow.
Because of the accomplishments of our students, and the experience provided by our staff,
Keefe Tech has never had more support from our communities. This is shown in the support of our budget, and through a record number of applications for next year's Grade 9 class. Through all of your efforts, Keefe Tech continues to be a great place to go to high school and a great place to work.
As we look forward to another successful Summer Discover season, we will also be working
hard to prepare to welcome the newest members of our school community, the students and
families of the Class of 2028.
Until then, I wish all of you a safe and wonderful summer.
See you in August!
Mr. Evans
Thank You and Best Wishes To Retirees!

You will help us think about how to do a better job supporting students who are in high school now.

Help us meet the school wide reading goal by starting strong this summer!
From Mrs. MacDonald:
I am thrilled to share an exciting initiative from the ELA department that aligns with our core value of lifelong learning. As part of our ongoing commitment to increase literacy and foster a love of reading, we have set an ambitious community goal of reading 150,000 pages during the upcoming school year, with further ambitions when we accomplish this goal. This initiative includes participation from all staff and students.
To kick off this effort, we are launching our goal with summer reading. We encourage everyone to dive into books of any kind—whether it's fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, or audiobooks. Each time you finish a book over the summer, please take a moment to complete the attached form to review your book. This will help us track our progress and share book recommendations within our community.
This inclusive goal is designed to bring our community together through the shared joy of reading, and we are excited to have everyone participate.
Thank you for your support and enthusiasm. Happy reading!

Career and Technical Updates
Keefe Tech and the Hopkinton Historical Commission are delighted to announce the completion of the Aiken's Park Stone Bridge restoration, featuring guard rails meticulously replicated and installed by our metal fabrication students
Built in the early 1800s, the bridge now boasts new railings that reflect its historical design, thanks to the students' dedication to accuracy and craftsmanship. This project provided a hands-on learning experience, blending historical preservation with modern skill. A testament to the collaboration between education and the community.

From Ms. Fairclough:
Dear parents/guardians:
In this last issue before summer break, I wanted to talk about how to practice self care over the next couple months. Despite the grumbling about having to go to school, the structure of the school day offers students the guard rails necessary to stay consistent with a schedule and productivity, not to mention the social gains.
Thus, I will talk about how to practice self care over the summer. The following are some suggestions adapted from CharlieHealth.com:
1. Follow a consistent schedule: Following a schedule can improve mental health due to the fact that routines tend to keep people more sane. For example, waking up and going to bed at the same time and also eating regular meals is linked to better sleep hygiene - which by extension improves mental health.
2. Keep a gratitude journal: Marking down things that make us feel fortunate and glad to be alive is linked to better mental health outcomes. Focusing on the positive aspects of life can build resilience, combat negative thoughts and deal with emotional stressors.
3. Spend some time outside: This is a self care practice linked to positive mental and physical health outcomes. You get exposure to natural sunlight, your body produces Vitamin D, and activity helps regulate mood and combat depressive symptoms.
4. Look for fun activities in your community: Summer concerts. yard sales, movies, you name it. Whatever interests you, just get out and enjoy any free time you may have. Attending a community event adds more structure in your life and makes you feel connected to where you live.
5. Say no to plans, too: It's easy to over commit to things but when there is something you don't want to attend give yourself the freedom to turn it down. Your time is precious. While socializing is important to combat isolation, too much time spent doing so can drain mental energy. Pausing to recharge is a great form of self care and will make the activities you do that much more enjoyable.
Also in this issue I included tips on how to keep learning over the summer, something for you and your student.
Have a great summer and see you next year!

Throughout their service year, Fellows also receive training and professional development from MPF, gaining valuable career skills and experience. This is a great opportunity for those looking for a meaningful gap year experience or to jumpstart their career after high school.
