EHMS Connections Newsletter #35
May 12, 2025
Dear East Hills Family,
We hope all the amazing mothers in our East Hills community had an OUTSTANDING MOTHER'S DAY YESTERDAY!! You are terrific!!
Our teachers are so appreciative of the amazing Teacher Appreciation Week last week. Your generous donations made all the difference, we can't thank you enough. The food, the treats, and the thoughtfulness went a long way with our staff. Many, many thanks.
These last weeks of school (FOUR, if you can believe it) are filled with fun and still hard work. Students and teachers are working together to finish the year strong! The presentation of so many long term projects show the hard work the students are continuing to put forth. Thank you for your support to keep it going to the end of the year!
Our choir represented East Hills at Hershey this past Friday and came back with some serious awards! Their hard work paid off! Next weekend, we will hope for the same(although they are so good, we can expect) when the EH band and choir have their overnight trip!
Keep reading below for even more awesome events coming!

BRAUN BRAGS
Sharooni
Wow! This young lady is AMAZING!!
Sharooni is part of many things here at East Hills. She is the vice-president of NJHS, team member of the Spectacular Six, field hockey team player, garden club member, and competitor in Math Counts! She is definitely a well rounded student. She loves to play tennis and badminton with her family. She actually has danced Bharatanatyam for years in Sri Lanka and is looking forward to continuing classes this summer. She likes to listen to audio books and is currently making her way through Pride and Prejudice.
She loves all of her teachers here at East Hills, so she couldn't pick a favorite. Her favorite subject is Science and her career goal is to be a cardiothoracic surgeon. We have no doubt she will achieve her goal!
One of the many accomplishments this young lady achieved is an award of $500 in a 529 account for being an amazing leader! The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and the office of the National Junior Honor Society awarded Sharooni this year’s National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA)! What an amazing honor! She also volunteered at Artsquest and AppleDays.
We are so lucky to have Sharooni as part of our East Hills family and we will miss her as she moves on to high school! I hope she visits often!!
CHARGER PRIDE!
Addison is an amazing gymnast!
Addison Warren is an 8th grader in Mrs. Norton's homeroom. Addison has been a gymnast for many years. She recently became the All-Around Pennsylvania State Champion in the XCEL Diamond level for her age category outside of Pittsburgh! Her official score was 37.000 and will now head to the Regional Championships out at Penn State in a few weeks. She is in the top TEN of the country in Floor and Bars!!
We could not be more proud of her accomplishment. She is a true STUDENT ATHLETE and we are so glad to have her part of our East Hills family!

How to Navigate all of these Apps!
When our children are glued to their screens, what apps are they using? What are these companies doing with your child's PII (personally identifiable information)? How can you tell if your child is chatting with a stranger posing as a kid? If you are overwhelmed with just one of these three questions, here is a time-proven resource by the non-profit organization, Common Sense Media. Its goal is to help families make smart and age-appropriate choices about media sources. It provides reviews, age-based ratings and Ultimate Guides for parents, educators and kids. Click on the image below to access the Ultimate Guides list to multiple apps that your kids are using now. Educating yourself on the array of new social media apps is necessary to protect our kids and prepare them to navigate this increasingly evolving online world.

CELL PHONES!!
New for 2024-25
Summer is coming to a close and often we neglect to realize many of the changes the students will need to become accustomed to when school starts. Waking up early, preparing to catch the bus or travel to school, schoolwork, homework, and the list goes on.
One major area to consider is that your children will not have the same access to their cell phones when they become students again.
Parents, please prepare your child(ren) for the adjustment. Most parents have limitations they set for their children throughout the summer days to limit screen time. However, all of the students and you as parents need to know that we are adjusting our standards for the upcoming school year. We looked back on the level of distraction vs. usefulness cell phones have provided over the past few years and we realize the need to set a tone for the school day to be largely void of the distractions of cell phones. Here is what you should prepare your child(ren) for when they return to school:
Students may not CARRY phones in hands, pockets, etc. Cell phones must not be out at all. They must remain in bags during the school day. This means:
Students can never use cell phones in class, hallway or office without teacher/staff permission.
Students can never carry cell phones in hand in the hallway.
Students can never take cellphones to/in the lavatory.
Students can never take cell phones to the cafeteria (not in purses/lunch bags if those items are brought to the cafe).
***Smart watches have similar restricted use in all the same ways as cell phones. Smart watches can and will be collected if used inappropriately.
