Preparing for a Phone-Free Environment at HRVHS
To start the school year, students should not use personal devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, and earbuds, during class, passing periods, and lunch. We will work closely with students and families over the next few months to set clear rules and procedures. This includes guidelines for keeping devices off and out of sight, and ways for parents and students to communicate during the school day. We'll start implementing these expectations at freshman orientation on Tuesday, August 27, and will continue refining our approach through September and October. A detailed message about all technology rules and procedures will be sent within the first two weeks of school.
Our goal is to maintain a focused learning environment from bell to bell. In the classroom, cell phones, smartwatches, and earbuds must be put away in designated classroom cell phone wall pockets(see image below). These devices will not be used as rewards or during free time. If a student leaves the classroom with a pass, their devices must stay put away.
To communicate clear expectations and consequences:
- If a device is out the first time, the teacher will collect it.
- On the second offense, the device will be taken to the office and kept until the end of the school day.
- For the third offense, a guardian will need to pick up the device.
Your support is essential as we work together to create a focused and supportive learning environment for all students.
