You are doing the right thing in keeping your sick child home. Being fever free or vomit free for 24 hours before returning to school supersedes any attendance numbers, and we appreciate you following those guidelines that are in place to protect the children.

SEL Lessons Week 26
KINDERGARTEN
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to state a problem without blame or name calling. They’ll practice identifying problems in given scenarios, listen to their teacher state the problem, and then repeat the statement.
Try This at Home:
Children may be tempted to blame others when they’re upset about something. Encourage your child to avoid blame by describing what happened without focusing on who is at fault.
FIRST GRADE
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn helpful ways to respond to a problem caused by accident. They’ll practice phrases for apologizing: "I’m sorry. It was an accident. Are you okay? How can I help?"
Try this at Home:
When accidents occur at home, take time to apologize and encourage your child to do the same, using the new phrases they learned at school this week.
SECOND GRADE:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will begin to understand what online meanness can look like and how it can make people feel. They will be able to identify ways to respond to mean words online, using S-T-O-P.
Try This at Home:
Ask your child how they should deal with meanness online and what S-T-O-P meanness means and how they would demonstrate STOP meanness. Discuss with your child trusted adults they should talk to if they experience online meanness.
THIRD GRADE:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson your child will learn how to say a problem by thinking about what each person wants or needs.
Try this at Home:
Ask your child how they would say a problem respectfully, without blaming anyone.
FOURTH GRADE:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child practiced rethinking a variety of situations in order to help them feel better.
Try this at Home:
Ask your child to give you an example of how to use rethinking when feeling disappointed about not doing their best on a task or activity.
YMCA After-Care Enrollment
Enrollment for the 2024-25 school year will open on April 24th. Watch for more info in the coming weeks.
Parent Volunteers & Safe Visitor Background Checks
If you are planning to visit or volunteer at FCE this year during school hours, you will need a Safe Visitor Background Check. There will be several opportunities for parent volunteers here at FCE, including FIELD TRIPS, FIELD DAY, etc. In order to volunteer at a school event during school hours (or attend a PTO meeting during school hours), you must have a current SafeVisitor background check on file. In order to obtain your Safe Visitor pass, please click on the link below and follow the directions. Please keep in mind it sometimes takes a few weeks to process, so be sure you give yourself plenty of time!
