Term 1, Week 6 - 6 March to 12 March
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S PEN
Tēnā koutou parents, students and whānau
Many in our community will have heard or seen media reports that teachers throughout the country who belong to the secondary schools' PPTA Union will be taking strike action next Thursday 16th March.
Thankfully, the PPTA has offered an option for schools throughout the Tairawhiti/ Gisborne and Hawkes Bay regions to be exempt from this strike action due to the disruption caused from Cyclone Gabrielle. Our teachers at Campion have chosen to apply for this exemption to not strike on Thursday the 16th of March. The exemption has to be approved by the PPTA Union at a national level and we expect this exemption will be approved by Monday. We will update our community once we receive the official notification.
As a teaching community, we support our colleagues throughout the country who are taking strike action, however, we also agree that now is not the time to be causing further unsettledness in our community. We are hopeful that the teachers’ unions (both secondary and primary) and the Ministry of Education are able to reach an employment agreement in the not too distant future.

HE ĪNOI MŌ TE RANGIMĀRIE - A PRAYER FOR PEACE
E te Ariki,
You are the Prince of Peace.
Help us to be people of peace in all that we do.
May we always show love at home.
Help us to care for our family
and say sorry when we need to.
May we always show patience at school.
Help us to see the needs of others
around us and look to bring healing.
May we always look to be joyful in all that we do.
Help us to bring light even when there is darkness.
We pray for your world.
Where there is war, may there be peace.
Where there is struggle, may there be peace.
Where there is anger, may there be peace.
May your peace come again.
Amen.

WERO TIAKI WAI - EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE
With our main water pipeline still out of action, we continue to be in a water crisis. This is likely to continue for some time and the more awareness shared about water conservation, the better.
The Gisborne District Council has created ‘Wero Tiaki Wai’ – a challenge to reduce water use. They're encouraging schools and communities across the region to send through photos, poems, stories, tips, videos, and drawings – and we’re asking you to get involved!
We want to hear about everything and anything you think of when you hear water conservation.
Please see Mrs Sadler if you would like to make an entry or if you have any super ideas.

CONSIDERATE DRIVING
The council have been in touch and asked us to remind our community to drive with courtesy on both ends of Campion Road. If you are picking your child up from over the bridge, please do not park over driveways. The residents understand that this is a convenient pick up spot for our students and ask for courtesy from all drivers.
CARITAS PURPLE RIBBON LENT APPEAL
In support of the season of Lent, Caritas is again hosting the purple ribbon appeal. Lent leading up to Easter and the resurrection of Jesus is a time for us to reflect on aspects of ourselves. It is a time to make prayer, almsgiving and fasting a priority and wearing the ribbon can act as a reminder of this commitment. Purple was the colour of the robe Pilate placed on Jesus, and while it is associated with repentance or pain, it also represents ambition for growth and dignity.
This year's Caritas theme is John 8;12, “I am the light of the world”,
which is something we should all strive to uphold.
Ribbons will be available from verticals by a donation. We want everyone to get involved and there will be a mystery prize for the vertical that collectively sells the most ribbons. You can bring money to your vertical form teacher, use eftpos in the office, or donate via the KINDO APP here.
HAIRDRESSING COURSE
This year, we are offering a Campion led hairdressing course for Year 11 students on Friday. We are so lucky to have Shari Wilson as our tutor. Today's lesson was all about tapping into creativity, teamwork, effective communication, and time management skills. The students were tasked with creating fashion garments out of newspaper under time pressures. Judging from the picture below, they did a great job!
