Welcome to the month of February at WAVA. This month our 7 Mindset is 'Passion First'. This Mindset is to help us establish the need for connecting our passion to our goals and pursuits. Take a moment this month to think about what you are passionate about and how you can reach your goal. Our team of WAVA Counselors for grades K-12 have opportunities each month on the class connect schedule to share with students about our 7 Mindsets and Social and Emotional Learning. Look on your schedule for optional sessions that you can attend. This month we have our MAP testing window between January 31st and February 18th. We also have opportunities each month for students to connect outside of the classroom in activities like our recent Spelling Bee or Clubs. Why does WAVA Work for you? WAVA teacher Tami Berry enjoys teaching and having the opportunity to watch her daughter ride horses and compete. Her daughter Kaya is a Freshman at WAVA. She has been working with horses for 5 years including mini horses, cart driving, showmanship, barrel racing, and gaming. She is currently in WAHSET, which is the Washington High School Equestrian Team. She competes mainly in gaming, but also does trail, versatility, cow sorting, and shows her mini. She helps her friend with teaching horse riding lessons to young children and often spends over 50+ hours a week at the barn. She is following her passion and being successful as a student at WAVA. As a mom, Mrs. Berry could not be more proud of her for that. Mrs. Berry loves teaching at WAVA and seeing so many students being able to follow their own passions. February Mindset at WAVA is 'Passion First'

At WAVA we want to connect with students and believe that all student can succeed. In addition to connection in the classroom through academics, student support, class connect sessions and learning platforms students can connect on their own time for community engagement. Club options for Stride can be found on the OLS Announcements and the Class Connect Schedule. WAVA Clubs will be on the WAVA Bulletin at https://www.wavabulletinboard.com/esports-and-clubs. Clubs may include options in Gaming, Art, Baking, Music, ASB, SkillsUSA, GLSEN, Social Chats and Esports.

February Theme: Love for Pets

Our February photo contest theme is Love for Pets - we want to see pictures of those pets that you love! So get your cameras out and let's see all those fun pictures of our furry friends who are always there to love us right back! Use your creativity to capture the moment.

We are encouraging you to submit a photograph (limit to 1) you have taken relating to our February theme, Love for Pets, for the chance to win a prize!

A winner in each grade range (K–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12) will be chosen.

The contest runs February 1, 2021 through February 28, 2022.

SkillsUSA is offered at WAVA as a club for Grades 9-12 for students to have career exploration opportunity and skill building in career and technical education. Become a more highly engaged student and citizen. Make education and career choices that are validated by industry. Develop career readiness skills like effective communication, teamwork and problem solving. Check it out! We are excited to partner with TutorMe to provide resources and tools in support to our Middle School and High School Age students. This service will be available to students soon and will provide skilled tutoring support in moments to your students 24 hours a day! Connect with a Tutor this month for your 8 hours of tutoring time.

Testing:

The required annual assessment of English Language Learners begins February 1st and runs through March 25th. All students identified as English Language Learners will be contacted with your in-person testing schedule. If you have questions, please reach out to your assigned ELL Teacher.
