Summer Newsletter
Hello Rees Parents and Students,
Thank You so much for coming out to our Back to School Night Fundraiser and 120 year celebration. We are so grateful for your contributions that will go toward field trips, student incentives, and supplies for students. You make our school stand out with your support of students and teachers. Here are a few items to be aware of this month.
S.O.A.R Weeks:
If you are new to Rees Elementary this year, during these first few weeks of school our teachers teach students how to S.O.A.R. Rees Eagles S.O.A.R is our school motto and the basis of our character education and school wide rules. For five weeks, teachers teach a letter of S.O.A.R with character lessons and activities. On the last week, or S.O.A.R week we will have school wide activities that help culminate our learning. My favorite activity is our community service project that teaches students to Serve and Support. This year, we will be collecting items for hygiene packets to donate to Tabitha's Way, a community outreach program in Utah County. We would love to invite you to participate in that as a family and you can start collecting now. We appreciate your support! To understand more about S.O.A.R click here.
School Community Council:
We will be holding our School Community Council Election September 3rd-4th. Please look for the email to vote for two parents to serve on our SCC.

We look forward to meeting with you on September 26th. Teachers will send a sign up on September 9th. These conferences are so important to your students' success. Please mark your calendars and we will see you there! Future conferences are January 23rd and April 10th.

Counselor Corner
Hi! I am Mandy Cope and I will be the new school counselor here at Rees Elementary! I have four children and love being with my family. I enjoy reading, playing pickleball, and eating ice cream! I love animals and have always wanted a goat. I play the piano and am learning to play the bagpipes.
As a school counselor, my focus is on Well-Being. My counseling program is aligned with Nebo School District's Well-Being Vision. Additionally, all Nebo School District elementary students will be taught a newly adopted Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum that is anchored to 24 Character Traits (see attached). I will be going into classrooms monthly; teaching your student(s) coping skills and tools centered on these 24 Character Traits using In Focus curriculum: a Well-Being program adopted by Nebo School District.
This month I will be introducing the 24 Character Traits, also called Strengths. We will be discussing how we all have different strengths and weaknesses, and how we can work to turn our weaknesses into strengths. I will be talking about self-awareness with the older students. Self-awareness means having an accurate understanding of ourselves, including knowing our strengths and weaknesses. "It's recognizing, understanding and being able to label our emotions, thoughts, feelings and behaviors." Please ask your student(s) about Character Traits this month.
I am excited to work with you and your student(s). If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at mandy.cope@nebo.edu
