LIECK IMAGINATION Parent Edition
August 2024 Newsletter: Welcome back to School!
INSTRUCTIONAL SCHOOL DAY: 7:45 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.
Welcome Back Lieck Families!
We are excited that the first day of school is just a couple of days away! We hope that you and the family had a restful and relaxing summer and are ready for the new school year to begin. The Lieck Elementary staff has been working hard preparing for student return and we are excited to begin. We are honored to be able to serve and support the Lieck community and we are committed to providing a high level quality education to your child. Thank you for choosing Lieck as your elementary school, the best in NISD!!
Although the safety and health of our students is in the forefront of all of our minds, our school mission states, "Every day, Lieck Lions grow through quality and meaningful experiences." One of our realities is that the pandemic has impacted the academic progress of our students in different ways and in different content areas. Our teachers have been working through the summer months to develop plans to support our learners. Our campus efforts will focus in closing achievement gaps in both reading and math.
To support our goals in math, we are excited to continue to have the support of a part time Math Staff Development Support Teacher, Mrs. Petty. With her support we will be able to continue to develop our teachers in math through our Professional Learning Community (PLC) and in turn support overall student achievement. In the area of reading we also have a full time Literacy Leader, Ms. Trevino. She too helps teachers plan through effective teaching strategies and teacher collaboration. As part of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) teachers collaborate with one another to plan for meaningful and engaging lessons, monitor student progress and create effective plans for intervention or enrichment.
Additionally this year we will really focus on utilizing our campus wide intervention block from 8:00-8:30 where teachers will plan for targeted intervention and enrichment. "Rise and Shine" time will be Monday - Thursday and students will be working on their goals in the area of reading and math. Online research based intervention programs will be available to students throughout the year.
This year we will also delve into supporting the whole child by providing daily Social Emotional Lessons through our daily morning meetings. Our guidance counselors, Ms. Moore and Ms. Gonzales Hernandez, will provide meaningful lessons to all grade levels and are also available to meet with students in small groups and one on one as needed.
To assist you in understanding our instructional programs and expectations, we encourage you to join us for our Parent Orientation Day, Wednesday, August 28th. There will be 3 sessions offered. The 1st session will be from 4:30-5:00pm, the 2nd session will be from 5:00-5:30pm and the 3rd session will be from 5:30-6:00pm. We hope to see you there as to better support your child and their progress in school.
We look forward to a great partnership with our families. Neither of us can do it alone, and we look forward to partnering in helping your child(ren) grow this school year.
Thank you for taking the time to carefully read our newsletter. We are looking forward to a GREAT year!
Ms. Jessica Garza

A Word from the Nurse
The school nurse does not diagnose illnesses but takes notes of the symptoms and notifies the parent/guardian of the observations. If a child becomes ill or injured at school, the student will be assessed and given first aid, and the parent/guardian will be notified if the severity of the injury or illness warrants such action.
Children should be kept at home when ill and are expected to be free of fever (temperature less than 100.0° F) and free of communicable diseases in order to attend school. In accordance with the Texas Administrative Code, students are required to be excluded from school until fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications. The Texas Department of State Health Services defines fever as a temperature of 100.0°F or greater. This is important for the health of the child and for the health of all children at the school.

Buses and Boundaries
Northside ISD assigns students to schools according to the street address where the student resides. Our Boundaries and Buses Information System will provide you with the name and address of the schools serving your area. Just enter the student’s street number and street name to search for school assignment, bus route information, and any future Board adopted boundary changes.
For general boundary information, attendance area maps for each elementary, middle & high schools are listed on the campus sites.
While one-on-one communication is the best, in a district as large as Northside ISD it is sometimes difficult. Because we want our parents to stay informed, NISD has several ways that parents and other interested citizens can stay informed about the successes and challenges of San Antonio’s premier school district of choice, as well as find out news about their children’s schools.
