The Principal's Corner with Dr. Barlow
I attended an excellent math training class last week. Many of the important themes we discussed will be part of our great math training on Oct. 9 and I am hoping you will take time to join me for one of the three 90-minute sessions offered. We are starting to get a good list of parent participants and I hope you will be one of them!
Students learn best when they are actively engaged in questioning, struggling, problem solving, reasoning, communicating, making connections and explaining - in other words when they are making sense of the world around them. Mathematics grows out of curiosity about the world. Human minds want to see and understand patterns.
Whether you are a new family of a young student starting homeschooling or a continuing, experienced home educator with a student who is approaching or in secondary education, I trust you will find this parent education series a boost and encouragement to your teaching to keep the main things the main thing, maintaining the big picture and long term goals in sight.
I have a ton of appreciation and respect for each of you as a home educator and the journey you are on. The ability to use mathematics fluently - flexibility, efficiently and accurately - empowers people to influence their lives, communities and careers and the larger world in important ways. We want to encourage and equip you in your important work, so please sign up and join us on Oct. 9! Click the flyer above to sign up!
We will have space for your kids to join you as needed.
Dr. Scott Barlow, Principal
