June 10, 2022
As I leave Holly Academy I do so with a heavy heart, but also with excitement for the school's future. As a charter school, HA is a school and a district. Our small district has forged a place among the top 10% of schools in the State of Michigan. Through the hard work of staff and students, we are certainly a powerhouse in Southeast Michigan! This dedication to excellence happens because HA staff is the best of the best. Everyone works as a school community to support our Huskies academically and emotionally. Additionally, character development has been the hallmark of our philosophy since day one.
Thank you to our families for choosing an alternate school choice beyond your resident districts. Choosing Holly Academy comes with the burden of transporting your child/ren every day. The choice also reflects your commitment to the value of a rigorous education. Together, we make the "magic" that happens at HA!
I am also grateful to the varied Board of Directors members I have worked under over the years. The Board is the governing body of HA and as such, ensures that we make prudent decisions fiscally and that Board policies are carried out with integrity. It has been an honor to work with the many Board members that served to make me a better administrator.
I'm so pleased to announce that Derrick Bushon has accepted the position as the next Director of Holly Academy. Mr. Bushon comes from the Swartz Creek School District, where he is a Special Education administrator. Hopefully, you saw him on campus yesterday when he met students and staff. He is very excited to lead Holly Academy in the school's next adventure!
It has been the privilege of a lifetime to be the Director of Holly Academy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your support. I will always be honored to be a Husky!

Camp Invention
The National Inventors Hall of Fame created Camp Invention to inspire future creators and entrepreneurs in a semi-structured environment that provides open-ended STEM activities.
Holly Academy’s camp will happen from 8/8 - 8/12/22.
This year students will explore:
- Marble Arcade: Children zigzag through physics, engineering, and gaming as they build a mega marble arcade!
- Spin Into the ATTIC: Art and STEM combine in this immersive experience with their robotic artist!
- Robotic Aquatics: Children dive into ocean research and adopt their own aquatic animal!
- Spacecation: Inspired by real space exploration, campers create Spacepacks and Astro-Arm devices to help them with glow-in-the-dark lunar discoveries and erupting ice volcanoes!

2022 PTO Scholarship
Every year the PTO sends scholarship applications to any student that is graduating high school and also attended Holly Academy Kindergarten through 8th grade. These individuals have the opportunity to be awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship from the PTO. The applicants complete an application and submit an essay. The PTO reviews the applications and provides the essays, which remain anonymous, to the individuals reviewing the essays. Once the essays are reviewed, the PTO then determines which individual will be awarded the scholarship.
At the PTO meeting on Wednesday, June 8th, the PTO Board had the honor of recognizing the 2022 PTO Scholarship recipient. We would like to congratulate Macy Melero for being awarded the 2022 PTO Scholarship. Macy graduated from Fenton High School and plans to attend Xavier College in the fall. Congratulations, Macy!!
