Autumn Term -24th October 2024
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers,
As the half term draws to a close, it is a wonderful opportunity to congratulate all the children on such an excellent start to their year - they all seem very settled. The children have had a busy half term, learnt a huge amount and shown own HPP principles throughout. We are all very proud of them. This wouldn’t be possible without all the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of our wonderful staff. I just wanted to say a huge thank you to them all and hope they have a well earned rest next week.
This week year 5 visited the science museum (one of my personal favourites) and had a wonderful time visiting the different exhibits and taking part in various activities. The main focus for the visit was linked to their earth, space and beyond topic which I am sure inspired them to learn more about this fascinating topic.
Bikeability also started for year 6, which sees them take the opportunity to develop their riding skills and road safety awareness. They will be reminded of the importance of always having a helmet whilst riding and also adhering to the rules of the road.
Linked to road safety, I have had a number of parents raise concerns about parents letting their children out of cars at the level crossings, especially at drop off time. This is dangerous and should not be happening! Please find a place to safely stop the car and let your child out. We will be monitoring this closely next half term with the local authorities traffic wardens.
I have had a few parents ask for clarification around what shoes are to be worn on PE days. Trainers should be worn on both PE days but these do not need to be black. However, children should not wear overly bright, neon or sparkly trainers and certainly no astro boots. If you have any further questions please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Finally, today your child will have brought home with them a letter about Arbor. Please read this carefully and ensure you follow the instructions to allow communication to be received going forward.
I hope you all have a restful half term and look forward to seeing you on Monday 4th November.
Mr J James

Messages from the Office
Absences
When reporting your child's absence from school it is important to give as much information as you can. If you say your child is "unwell" this will always prompt a further call from the office to find out exactly what the nature of the illness is so please give as much information as possible so that this can be coded correctly.
In the case of sickness or diarrhoea we will mark your child as absent for two days but will require a call/email on day three if your child is unwell.
If your chld does not have either sickness or diarrhoea we request that you update us on a daily basis if your child remains unwell. The office are unable to mark a child out for 2/3 days without medical evidence as to why they cannot return.

The deadline for ordering your child's individual and/or sibling photographs to school has been extended to Sunday 27th October.
A reminder that if you are ordering photos from both Hampton Juniors and Hampton Infants, please remember to make two separate orders and ensure all orders are placed by Sunday 27th, otherwise you will incur postage charges by Fraser Portraits.

Secondary School Places for September 25
Reminder that that the deadline for completing your child's application for secondary school will close on Thursday 31st October. Please ensure that you have viewed your child's chosen schools and completed your application with your local borough in good time. Any applications received after this date will be classed as late and will only be considered after all those received on time.
If your child has a brother or sister (sibling) who will still be attending your preferred school(s) in September 2025 please make sure this is noted on the application form so that the appropriate priority can be given.
Please see below guidance to assist you in this regard.
Poppies
We will be selling knitted poppies at a cost of £2 after half term. You may remember from past years these are made by a very talented ex-pupil's grandparent.
Thank you to those children who kindly volunteered to accompany Mr James at the annual poppy day parade. We will send you some pictures of this event in a few weeks' time.
Year 4 and 5 Author Visit
Year 4 and 5 enjoyed a visit from author Alex Atkinson today. She shared about her journey to becoming an author and was an inspiration to all children. Alex shared her new spooky tale ‘Spooksmiths Investigate The Cinderman’ and children were able to enjoy a book signing after an assembly.
HJS Sporting Achievements - Tag Rugby
Ten talented tag rugby players went to Richmond for the Borough tag rugby competition. The team played excellently - the 7 boys rotated well and the 3 girls played every match. After the first phase, where we won a match and drew and marginally lost one, we were through to the plate competition. Three further matches were played, and the team really upped their game. We won 2 games and drew the other, and were joint top of our pool in the plate league. Sadly we did not progress to the plate final on goal difference.
Well done to all for representing HJS so positively and a big thank you to Miss Byway and Mrs Fraser for providing support to the team.
Team: Toby, Francis, Arthur, Oliver, Louis, Caden, James, Eva, Audrey and Bea.
