Team Dublin Weekly Update
Week of April 8, 2024
Mr. Kirschenbaum, ELA
Mr. O'Malley, Math 6 and 7
Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
Man, how time flies – we lost track of time on the end of this unit. We had a great time wrapping up our Unit 5. Students created presentations proposing solutions to one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Most had a chance to present. I will get in the rest of the presentations as time allows. I am also working on sending links to them so you can see the work they have done. There are some GREAT solutions!
On Friday, we started Unit 6: Europe by mapping the political and physical maps of Europe. If they didn’t finish in class, they had the option to take it home to finish. The physical features that need to be labeled on the map are Alps Mountains, Ural Mountains, Carpathian Mountains, English Channel, Siene River, Rhine River, Atlantic Ocean, Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea. The homework they MUST do for the weekend is to complete their Unit 6: Physical Features vocabulary. To do so, use Nearpod code 483CT.
Next week, we will BRIEFLY review/correct maps, check for vocabulary completion (homework grade), and start investigating thematic maps of Europe. Wednesday will be a review day. On Thursday, they will be taking their Europe Map Quiz. On Friday, they will complete a worksheet about the European Union.
*** Please note I am chaperoning the 8th grade language trip to Costa Rica. Students need to be on their best behavior and are expected to complete their assignments. Their assignments should be turned in as instructed (to substitute or period bin).***
Ms. Osman, Science
Welcome to Term 4! This week, our students will continue wrapping up the Weather Patterns unit by delving into the concept of fronts and exploring how they impact weather. Additionally, they will engage in an activity focused on predicting the probability of hurricanes, fostering critical thinking and scientific inquiry. As part of their ongoing academic progress, students are encouraged to study diligently for their upcoming Roots Quiz 4.2, scheduled for Friday, April 12th, during class time. In addition to these topics, students will also participate in a brief lesson on the upcoming eclipse, learning about safe practices for viewing an eclipse.
This week's root words:
*anthropo = human (Think: Anthropology)
insula = island (Think: Insular)
*auto = self (Think: Autobiography)
toxic = poison (Think: Toxicology)
biblio = book (Think: Bibliography)
This Week's Assignments: Roots Quiz 4.2 on Friday
If Classwork is NOT completed in class, it is due the next day in class.
Ms. Patsalos, Intermediate ESOL
This week begins the 4th Advisory. It also begins about a month when students will not have their school computers. Since they will not be able to complete their System 44 assignments in class, it is even more important that students do them for homework.
