Parking Changes
The City of St. Paul has launched a parking pilot program that will affect Highland Park Elementary and the surrounding neighborhood beginning Monday, February 2, and ending Saturday, April 12. This adjusted parking protocol will be in effect for the entirety of the pilot programming, regardless of winter weather.
In short, the pilot areas will allow for parking on only one side of streets at any given time. Parking locations will change from odd sides of the street to even sides of the street every-other week.
Read-a-Thon
Read a Thon 2025 is coming soon - It is our biggest annual fundraiser at HPE! Watch for the packet to come home in early February. Read a Thon will run from February 14-28. We hope all HPE families are able to participate!
Do you have gently used books (especially graphic novels!) to donate for other kids to have for incentives? Please send them to school with your child or bring them to the Main Office, there is a tub for them under the sign-in table. We will be collecting books through March 9. Thank you

Girls on the Run: Looking for Coaches!
Please see the message below from our Girls on the Run coordinator:
Hello HPE Community!
My name is Katy Korchik. I’m Allison (5th grade) and Lauren (3rd grade) Reilly’s mom and I volunteered to manage Girls on the Run (GOTR) for Highland Park Elementary this year. It’s a great program that uses games, activities, and running to help girls in grades 3-5 to set goals, build friendships and self-confidence, as well as encourage lifelong physical activity. Coaching last year was a lot of fun and I made connections with both kids and the other adult volunteers.
The current plan is to have practices after school on Monday and Wednesdays from 2-3:30 from April 7 - May 28, plus a celebratory 5K run on the weekend of May 31-June 1 (exact time and date tbd).
However, registration won’t open for HPE kids until we have a minimum of 3 committed coaches to run the program. Right now, I am the only coach.
Coaches do NOT need to be “runners.” GOTR is seeking responsible, enthusiastic adults (of all genders!) with a commitment to preparing our youth for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Although “Run” is in the name of the program, GOTR is more than just running and truly celebrates all levels of fitness and ability. I ran/walked the 5K with minimal amounts of preparation last year!
Training for the program is robust and includes online modules and one required in-person session in February or March.
Please let me know if you are interested coaching or would just like more information. If coaching is not for you, I would appreciate it if you could spread the word to others in the community so that we can field a team this year.
Thank you,
Katy Korchik
