The Week Ahead in 3-215
Mrs. Sokolowski's Third Grade News
Welcome Autumn!
This week we bid summer farewell and welcome a new season- autumn! We are settling into our new routines and procedures and there is so much learning happening. A few important notes:
- There is no school this week on Wednesday for Yom Kippur.
- There will be a multiplication concepts quiz on Tuesday and our Fundations Unit 1 Test is on Friday.
- Please check the class website for additional study materials.
- Family Fluency Math flashcards are due back to school on Friday. Thanks for your help!
Realistic Fiction!
This week, we will begin learning about different genres in preparation for our year long 40 Book Challenge!
September Character Trait: Respect
During September, our school discusses what it means to show respect. We read the book Only One You and talked about how that connects to respect. Check out the amazing display of a "school of fish" near our auditorium!
Math!
We have been learning about the concept of multiplication. Repeated addition, equal groups, number bonds, and arrays are all ways to show multiplication. We will take our first quiz on Tuesday as we move into the concept of division.
Book Orders Are Due Friday, September 25th
At Open School Night, you received a blue folder with many papers! Our Scholastic Reading Club book order form was in there. If you are interested in ordering books, you can follow the directions to do it online or send in the form and payment. The order is due by this Friday, September 25th.
Class Dojo Store is Open!
Students will receive their first Class Dojo paychecks on Monday. Dojo dollars are given for the amount of points a student earned in the week. If a student has 6 Dojo points, they will be given $6 Dojo Dollars. Dojo Dollars can be exchanged for various privileges and rewards in the classroom. Students earn Dojo points by showing responsibility, being helpful, focusing on their work, and participating. The student with the highest Dojo points for the week will get a special certificate. Congratulations to Kayden, our first student to receive this certificate!
Quote of the Week
“Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives.Such striving may seem admirable, but it is the way of foolishness. Help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life. Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears. Show them how to cry when pets and people die. Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand. And make the ordinary come alive for them. The extraordinary will take care of itself.” ―William Martin
