Mad Science of Detroit: Fire & Ice Assembly
Last Monday, students were treated to the Fire & Ice Assembly. Students were mesmerized as they learned about fluid dynamics, and the effects of heat and cold. Our students really liked the amazing dry ice experiments and the special bubbly shower. Many of our Comets also assisted the Mad Scientist during her presentation. Special thanks for the Mark Twain Parent Club for providing this opportunity!
6th Grade Learns About Cells
Throughout the year, 6th graders have investigated the different systems that make up our bodies. We are now in our second unit, which pertains to cells. 6th graders are learning the similarities and differences between animal and plant cells. Students have explored how cells make up every living thing on earth and the different parts of cells. We have observed how plant and animal cells look and move differently from one another. We have had thoughtful discussions and activities regarding cells thanks to Discovery Education
Kiwanis Food Drive
Our Mark Twain students and families collected a whopping 919 canned goods and items for the Clinton Valley Kiwanis Thanksgiving Food Drive! WOW! With the help and guidance of our amazing Stu-Co Reps, we were able to collect, count, and pack up all of the meal items for families in need.
*The winning lower ele class is Mrs. Cracchiolo's 3rd grade class-169 items
*The winning upper ele class is Mrs. Albrecht's 4th grade class-232 items
Many thanks to all of our Twain Families for all of your generous donations!
Raise Money for Mark Twain
Mark Twain will be selling Texas Roadhouse gift cards just in time for the holidays! Packets were sent home last week.
The window for this fundraiser will conclude on Monday, December 2nd. Students should return their order forms and money prior to this date. Gift cards will be returned to the school the following week and distributed to families.
This is a prepaid fundraiser, so please be sure to collect full payment for each gift card your child sells. Use the provided envelope to track and hold the payment for your orders. Don't forget to write the student's name and teacher in the space provided on the envelope.
Everyone loves Texas Roadhouse, so selling gift cards is easy and they make the perfect gifts for the holidays. These gift cards are accepted at all locations, over 800 nationwide, and never expire or lose value. Gift cards may also be used at our sister store, Bubba's 33!
Gift cards are available in the following denominations: $5 to $100 amounts.
Cash is ideal so the school can get a faster return, but if you would like to write a check instead: Make all checks payable to: Mark Twain Parent Club.
The school will be earning 10% of all gift card sales from this fundraiser.
The top three selling students in each school will win prizes listed below: ($350 minimum to qualify)
1st Place: Squishmallow, VIP Night at TXRH,
Free Kids Meal for a year, Lunch for your Classroom
2nd Place: Squishmallow, Free Kids Meal for 6 months
3rd Place: Squishmallow, Free Kids Meal for 3 months
Please be sure to return your order envelopes with all payments collected no later than December 2nd..
Our lost & found is overflowing. Items will be outside placed the office/media center this week for students to reclaim items. Items remaining on Tuesday, November 26th will be donated to goodwill. Please encourage your child to check for missing items.
Change in Learning Modes
At this time, families are able to request to change the learning mode for their student(s) for the second semester of the 2024-2025 school year. Students who are currently attending school in-person in can switch to virtual, and students who are enrolled in virtual can switch to in-person. If you do not wish to switch your child’s learning mode, no action is necessary.
Requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Submitting the form linked in this email does not guarantee a request will be granted. Requests will be reviewed by building and district leadership and the parent/guardian will be notified. If approved, the change will be effective for the second semester (January 6, 2025 - June 6, 2025).
Please carefully consider this semester-long commitment before submitting this application, as requests to change during the second semester will not be granted. However, the District may change your child’s learning mode if appropriate academic progress is not met throughout the semester.
If you are interested in changing your child’s learning mode for the second semester, please fill out this application. You will need to submit one request for each student.

Twain Parking Lot Reminders
The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please do NOT swear on school grounds. We are trying to set a positive example for behavior for our Twain Comets, and shouting and swearing at other drivers does not set the right example for our kids. We ask our students to be respectful, organized, cooperative, kind, and safe, and we expect those behaviors to be modeled by our parents, too.
