MES Weekly Scoop
It's A Great Day to Be A Bulldog! Bulldogs Don't Quit!
Principal's Note
October 21-25, 2024
Dear Students, Staff, and Families,
As we continue through October, we have several important events and initiatives coming up that I wanted to share with you.
Red Ribbon Week: October 21-25
We are excited to participate in Red Ribbon Week, a national campaign promoting healthy, drug-free lifestyles. This year's theme is, "Life is a Movie Film Drug Free." Throughout the week, students will take part in fun activities that help reinforce the importance of making healthy choices. Please encourage your child to join in the fun while also having conversations at home about the significance of staying drug-free.
Bullying Prevention Month
As mentioned over the last few weeks, October is Bullying Prevention Month, and we are committed to creating a safe, respectful environment for all students. Throughout the month, students will engage in lessons through our Second Step curriculum that promote kindness, inclusion, and empathy. We encourage families to talk with their children about the importance of speaking up and standing against bullying. Together, we can foster a culture of respect and understanding at school.
The Value of Attendance
Finally, I want to stress the importance of regular school attendance. Every day at school is an opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and connect with their peers. When students attend school consistently, they are more likely to succeed academically and build strong social skills. Let's continue to work together to ensure that students are present and engaged, as every day truly counts.
Let's keep up the momentum with a successful school year and make October a month of learning, kindness, and success! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Important HANDBOOK Policy Updates
24/25 MES Parent Handbook
As temperatures are dropping, it can oftentimes bring on unwanted sicknesses. Please review the revised 24/25 MES Parent Handbook on our policies for staying home when sick and when to return to school. If your child went to the doctor, please bring a doctor's note upon returning to school.
Health Room
A child must stay home if they have a fever of 100 degrees, have been vomiting, have diarrhea, or have symptoms that would keep them from participating in school.
MES follows the 12 and 24 hour rule. Children must be fever free for 24 hours without medication. Children should stay home for 12 hours after the last time they vomited or had diarrhea. If a child is prescribed antibiotics they need to stay home 24 hours after the first dose.
Medication
Our nurse can distribute medication. Medication must be kept in the nurse’s office, be in the original labeled container, and an authorization from the prescribing care provider/physician must be presented each new school year for all medications. Written requests from the physician or dentist AND parent/guardian should accompany all medication to be administered. All “over the counter” drugs such as aspirin, Tylenol, and cough medicine, etc. will require a written form signed by the parent/guardian. Inhalers and cough drops may be kept in students’ book bags. Emergency medications for life-threatening allergic conditions may also be carried by the student with the appropriate documentation from the physician and parent/guardian. Please communicate with the school nurse or elementary office before sending medication to school for your student. (See BOE Policy JGFGB).
Allergies
If your student has an allergy please let the nurse know and she will provide a form to be signed by your student’s medical provider.
October 21-25 Breakfast and Lunch Menus
Red Ribbon Week!
We will have many fun events throughout the week! Monday morning, we will have a kick-off assembly with the team from the Marysville Police Department. Throughout the week, the students will participate in a coloring contest, BINGO, and opportunities to take a photo in front of the "Red Carpet." On Friday, the MPD and MFD will bring up some vehicles to showcase and allow students to tour and ask questions! We will also be taking a school photo in our Bulldogs are Buddies, Not Bullies t-shirts provided by our local PD department (thank you!). All students will be receiving a t-shirt that they will bring home on Friday. To conclude our event, members of the MPD will support us in our Minute To Win It games! A huge thanks to Mrs. Jessie Tjaden for all her hard work in preparing for this great week!
