A Week of Celebration, Connection, and Creativity Across Maple Run
Welcome to the latest edition of Tap Into Maple Run, where we celebrate the achievements, partnerships, and events happening across our district. Each week, I am reminded of the dedication of our staff, students, and families as we work together to provide a vibrant learning environment.
FY26 Budget Progress
This past week, the FY26 budget process took a significant step forward. On Monday, I had the opportunity to meet with legislators to discuss our district's financial plans and priorities. That evening, I attended the Fairfield Selectboard meeting to present and gather feedback on the budget proposal. It was energizing to engage with the community, answer thoughtful questions, and have meaningful conversations about the needs of our students and staff.
Wednesday evening marked a milestone as the Maple Run Unified School District Board of Directors officially approved the FY26 budget. This budget, reflecting a modest 2% increase from FY25, will be presented to voters on Town Meeting Day, March 4th. We are grateful for your ongoing support in shaping a financial plan that reflects our commitment to educational excellence and fiscal responsibility.
Student Highlights Across the District
Jay Peak Adventures: On Monday, Saint Albans Town School 5th graders and Fairfield Center School 4th and 5th graders enjoyed a day of skiing and riding at Jay Peak. As a Foundation School, Maple Run offers discounted access to skiing for students, their families, and staff. This partnership connects our students to the outdoors while fostering a lifelong love of winter sports.
Midterms at BFA: BFA students completed their midterms this week, wrapping up the first semester. Their dedication to academic success and growth continues to shine. I’m incredibly proud of the hard work and focus they demonstrated during this important time.
NCTC and City School Collaboration: NCTC’s Cosmetology students visited Saint Albans City School on Tuesday and Wednesday to provide free haircuts and trims for students. This partnership not only gives NCTC students valuable hands-on experience but also spreads smiles and confidence among our younger students.
Fine Arts Night at SATEC: Thursday evening brought families and friends together for SATEC’s 7th and 8th-grade Fine Arts Night. The event showcased our students’ artistic and musical talents, demonstrating their dedication and creativity.
Fairfield’s Yo-Yo Celebration: On Friday, Fairfield Center School celebrated its annual Yo-Yo event. Younger and older students connected through activities like reading, crafting mittens, and enjoying time together. Events like these highlight the importance of fostering a sense of community within our schools.
BFA’s Winter Carnival: To cap off the week, BFA held its Winter Carnival on Friday, celebrating the end of Semester 1. Students participated in a variety of fun activities, creating memories and reinforcing the value of joy and connection within the school environment.
Looking Ahead
As we move into the coming weeks, I encourage everyone to stay engaged with district events and budget updates. Your input and support are invaluable as we continue to shape the future of Maple Run.
Thank you for your commitment to our students and community. Together, we are building a brighter future!
