MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Steindorf Families,
What an amazing whirlwind of a week we had at Steindorf! Although there were only four days, we sure did cover a lot of ground!
Book Launch
Book Launch at Steindorf is a special time while we get our scholars excited about our classroom and school libraries opening. Our Steindorf assembly included our Word Parade, Family Book staff performance, ‘We are Family’ sing-along, poem reading, and Llama Llama Red Pajama rap performance by Ms. Ava! All day, Thursday, our classes visited the Design Hub for their “Book Tasting” at StarBooks! A big thank you goes to our outstanding staff for planning and leading this week’s events, Mrs. Chieng, Mrs. Lam, Mrs. Lister, Mrs. James.School Site Council
As mentioned last week, we have two School Site Council openings. Thank you to the many parents/guardians who reached out, expressing interest. We have four interested Steindorf parents/guardians for two openings. By Friday, September 13th, please vote for two candidates through this Google Form.
Thank you again for being part of the process of identifying your parent/guardian representatives on our School Site Council!
Street Smart Assembly, Bike Mobile, and Bike Rodeo (Rescheduled)
We are grateful for the leadership and dedication of HSC volunteer Tim Claes who partnered with the City of San Jose Transportation Department and I to set up The Street Smart Assembly (K-5 and 6-8) and Bike Mobile. We learned the proper way to measure and fit ourselves with a bike helmet as well as the steps for crossing the street, including:
STOP
LOOK left, right, left, and
LISTEN for approaching vehicles and other dangers.
The message of being aware of our surroundings was emphasized throughout the assembly. After school, Steindorf students and families could bring their bicycles to the Bay Area Bike Mobile to service, tune, and fix their bikes.
The Bike Rodeo has been rescheduled, due to the heat advisory this week, for October 10th.
Parking Lot Safety
Please remember to drive slowly and without distractions to school and in our parking lot. Just this morning, I observed a near vehicle vs. family accident in our crosswalk.
In community,
Principal Lee

Steindorf Bike Rodeo Moved to October 10th After School
Bike Rodeo RSVP
October 10th after school is the SJDoT’s Bike Rodeo program. This is optional and requires parental/guardian presence/supervision. This event will take place from 3:05 - 5:05pm.
A bike rodeo is a bicycle skills event which provides an opportunity for bicyclists to practice and develop skills that will help them to become better bicyclists and avoid typical crashes.
No permission slip is needed, but we do require that a parent or guardian be present during the time that their child(ren) are participating. Students need to bring their own bike and helmet. If they do not have a helmet, we will have a limited supply on hand to provide for these students.
Please RSVP through this link: https://forms.gle/3m8kyDPebVNUaJEKA. You can also sign up your student on arrival at the bike rodeo. However, the RSVP list gives the program leads an idea of how many students will be participating.

PARKING LOT SAFETY
Safe Travels To and From School - Do’s and Don'ts
NOTE: The city has installed a "Right Turn Only During School Hours" sign at the exit of our parking lot. This is now enforceable by police. TURNING LEFT OR TRYING TO GO STRAIGHT is a danger to our students. Especially those crossing in the crosswalk across the street. Please only turn right.
Do’s
Walk or ride your bike when possible. You can lock your bike at the small bike rack at the end of the middle school wings.
Pull forward in the drop-off zone.
Drive slowly through our parking lot and look for pedestrians crossing at any point.
If transporting your child via car, park in a designated parking spot or in the neighborhood.
Please ensure that your child is fully buckled when driving through our parking lot.
Wear a helmet, it’s the law! Children under the age of 18 in California are required to wear a helmet when riding or operating a non-motorized scooter, bicycle, roller skates or skateboard.
To reduce the risk of an accident, abide by the posted sign installed by the City of San Jose and only turn right out of our exit between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.
Don'ts
Don’t drive through our parking lot with distractions that could cause a student injury - In the first six days of school, Principal Lee has noted children scooting without a helmet, drivers with a phone in their hand, and dogs in drivers’ laps (which is not illegal, but a potential distraction).
Don’t park in designated disabled spots without a disabled placard.
Don’t bring your pet with you to campus.
HEALTH AND ATTENDANCE
Attendance Matters
School attendance is a top priority. When children miss school days, they miss the opportunity to learn from their teachers. The more children miss, the harder it is for them to keep up with those who attend school regularly.
Research shows that missing 10 percent of school, or just 2 days a month, negatively affects a student’s academic performance in reading and math.
Students who are chronically absent in grades TK-2 are far less likely to read proficiently at the end of grade 3.
Help your child be a HERO (Here at school, Every day, Ready to learn, and On time). Attending school every day helps students build their super powers like reading, writing, and math skills, and provides opportunities to connect with friends.
Medication Authorization
This is a reminder that all medications have to be stored in the office with the appropriate medication authorization form. To ensure your student's safety, over the counter and prescription medications that are used on campus must be accompanied by forms signed by your doctor. You can find all forms on our district website.
*All medications must be new and unopened. Cough drops and over the counter medications also follow the same guidelines.
Short-Term Independent Studies
If you are planning on scheduling family vacations, please make every effort to schedule around our instructional calendar. You can also find early release days outside of our regularly scheduled early release Wednesdays for scheduling appointments for your scholar. If your plans include your scholar missing 3-14 days of school, please notify the front office to discuss a short-term independent studies contract to minimize the impact of missed school days. You can find more information about absences on our district website.

BRUNCH AND LUNCH MENUS
Cambrian School District is pleased to offer all students complimentary breakfast and lunch meals. Meals will be available for pickup in the cafeteria during scheduled meal periods. Please consider taking advantage of our FREE school meals by clicking here and signing up. It extends your grocery budget, saves time planning and preparing meals, and is comforting and familiar for kids to have school meals. In addition, every meal served is reimbursed by the USDA and funds go toward Child Nutrition staff wages. Please note that you are not taking food away from someone who needs it more – we have plenty to go around!
(Select brunch or lunch)
SPORTS
Please remember to turn in your sports donations at the beginning of your season. Donations help cover coaches, referees, equipment, uniforms, and more. If you are unable to donate the full amount please consider a partial donation. Requested donation amount is $150. We accept checks (made out to Steindorf) or cash in the front office. You may also pay online through our HSC store. Here is the link: SPORTS DONATIONS
