Around the School Spotlight
This time of year brings a lot of feelings. When watching a kindergarten class move through the building, I’m reminded of just how far they’ve come this year. Most of them start school for the first time in the Fall and every single routine and procedure has to be taught & practiced….over and over again. From walking in a line, to opening their lunch boxes to playing a math game with a partner, there isn’t a routine or procedure that isn’t new to most of them.
Additionally, coming across some 2nd graders who were in the pod respectfully and responsibility doing an activity together serves as another reminder of the important work staff does here each and every day. They work tirelessly to provide our students with the tools they need to grow, both academically and socially. We appreciate your partnership in this important work!
Library News
Our library will be closed for inventory beginning June 3rd, for the remainder of the school year. All library books are due by Friday, May 31st. Any fines owed should be paid by May 31st as well, to enable us to close out this school year in a timely manner. Thank you.
Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey - Week of June 3-7
In an ongoing effort to seek feedback and input about the school experiences of Oregon students, the Oregon Department of Education is conducting the Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey for students grades 3-11. This information will help ODE to develop appropriate resources and supports for districts in Oregon. The survey asks students about their access to learning resources, learning opportunities, self-efficacy beliefs, and sense of belonging.
Oregon law (House Bill 2656) requires each school district to make the SEED Survey available to students in grades 3-11. Our school will provide the SEED Survey to our students the week of June 3-7. Parents or guardians may decline, either verbally or in writing, to have their student participate in the SEED Survey. For more details about the SEED Survey or to access the parent/guardian opt-out form, please see the links below from the Oregon Department of Education.
ParentSquare Communication and Alert Testing - June 4
As you know, in March our district began using the ParentSquare platform to deliver Trimester 2 electronic report cards via a secure link. We are excited to announce that this summer, we will be moving all district and school communications to the ParentSquare platform! Some of the benefits of moving our communications to this platform include:
All district and school communications archived for you on a single dashboard or app
More languages options available for translation
Event calendars integrated into your dashboard/app
Faster delivery of emergency or urgent notifications
Our district will be conducting a test of ParentSquare communications and alerts on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. This will provide all parents/guardians with an opportunity to see what these communications will look like through your dashboard or app, as well to check your notification preference settings before our full conversion to ParentSquare this summer. On June 4, our District Office will send test-only versions of email, text message, and emergency alerts through ParentSquare to all families as part of this test.
If you have not yet activated your ParentSquare account, you will receive an updated invitation link sometime next week. Need help activating your account? Follow the simple instructions included below.
If you have not yet set up your notification preferences in ParentSquare, please do so before June 4. ParentSquare settings are available when logged in via web browser and mobile app. To access via web browser, visit https://www.parentsquare.com/signin

Last Day to Submit Volunteer Background Checks - June 5
The last day to submit background checks for volunteering during this school year is June 5th. If you have not completed a background check with our district this year and are planning to volunteer for an end-of-year event, please submit your background check form ASAP to ensure the check will be completed in time. Please note that submissions take 7-10 business days to process. The submission form for our background check process can be found here.
Classroom parties and field trips require a background check. Audience members for promotions or other performance events do not require a background check.
Planning to volunteer next year? Volunteer background checks for the 2024-25 school year will reopen on July 1, 2024. Please watch for an email from our District Office in July with more details.
PAC Corner
~Book Bonanza is next Friday, May 31st. All students will get a chance to shop at Hawks View Book Bonanza for free books to read over summer break. This event could not be possible without our generous community donating used good condition books throughout the year. Our volunteers are looking forward to another fun and exciting day of book shopping with students. Volunteers are still needed if you’d like to help with a shift for this fantastic event! Please use the HelpCounter app to sign up to volunteer!
~Field Day is Friday, June 7th and we are still in need of volunteers. This is a big event and we need many volunteers to make this wonderful day happen for our students! All volunteers are encouraged to join us for a lunch between sessions! Coffee will be available for the AM shift as well. ALL volunteers will receive a T-Shirt and Kona Ice. To sign up, follow the link below. As a reminder, the lunch choices are due Friday, May 31st. Flyers came home last week via backpack mail.
PAC Programs
This year Hawks View was home to:
*Passport club where students travel around the world to learn about geography and dive deeper into one country each month with our special itinerary projects.
*Chess Club where students learned how to play chess and hone their critical thinking. Our tournament team competed in two tournaments and one of our very own Hawks View students went on to compete in the State Chess Tournament for K-5th grade.
*Art literacy provided 3 art lessons focusing on our featured artist to the whole school. Hawks View Students got to trace out tessellation patterns like MC Escher, create a story quilt like Faith Ringgold, and put themselves first in their beautiful nature inspired self portraits in the style of Frida Kahlo.
*Mason Jar Science where students got to dive deeper into one of our favorite specials, STEM. We explored density, chemical reactions, and eco-systems.
If you would like to be involved in any of these programs or have any ideas for something new that could benefit Hawks View next year please email Jesse Galloway at programs@hawksviewpac.org
