Information of Interest to Families
Principal's Corner
I hope your new year has started out well for you and your family. I know we have had a lot of illness. With that being said, if your child has a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea they should not attend school. They should not return to school until they are 24 hours symptom free without medication. Please, please, please do not send your sick, still recovering student to school to infect other students and staff. Working together we can better keep everyone healthy.
Update Information
Sometimes, when we call home or attempt to contact over the phone we discover the information in Infinite Campus is not current. I encourage you to contact the office to update your information if your phone or email has recently changed. In addition to this being a safety concern, a lot of district information is sent out via text, email or phone. In order for you to keep up to date on the happenings in the building and district it is important that we have the correct contact information.
Winter Fundraiser
Our Winter fundraiser kicked of Monday, January 27th. The event continues through Friday, February 7th. The buy-A-line event will be used for Leader in Me and end of year activities. For further information see the buy-A-line sheet your student brought home or call the office.

Curriculum
The month of January, students learned about emotional management. Students
learned where they feel feelings in their body and calm down steps to help with strong feelings.
The students had a few homelinks sent home for them to practice these skills with their family.
In preschool we continued Al’s Pals lessons about feelings. This involved identifying feelings,
showing feelings, and situations in which the feelings were likely to occur. If you have any
questions, feel free to contact me at (641) 472-2110 or Kelsie.roland@fairfieldsfuture.org.

Kindergarten News
Hello Parents,
We are finished with our Winter Fast testing and we are focused on getting ready to be first grade learners. All students should have mastery in letter/sound recognition. We have been working on stretching and blending 4 and 5 sound words. In math, students will need to be able to: count to 100 by the end of the year and compose and decompose numbers to 10. We will study American Symbols for Social Studies. We look forward to seeing you at our spring conference. Keep a lookout for directions to sign up soon.
Sincerely,
The Kindergarten Team
First Grade Classroom News
In first grade we will be continuing to learn about 2 digit numbers to 99. We are adding and subtracting using sticks of tens and ones. We are learning about place value, specifically tens and ones. We will be learning the terms greater than, less than, and equal to. Knowing the math facts will help your child be successful.
We are in Skills 4. By the end of the month our students will be writing a narrative about an animal we have read about in our reader. We are learning about how to write a good sentence using a capital letter, finger spaces between words, and punctuation. We are working on using complete sentences, as well. Some of the skills we are focusing on are two syllable words, past/present/future tense verbs, and r controlled words (-er, -ar, -or). You will see these types of words in their weekly spelling lists. Please spend some time helping your child with their spelling words. Having them read the word to you and write the word helps them for the test during the week.
We are currently learning about early American civilizations in Knowledge. We will be talking about the Mayans, Aztecs, and the Incas. We’ll be using prior knowledge about civilizations to learn about what makes each one unique!
Coming up at the end of the month will be conferences. We look forward to sharing all of the amazing things your child is doing in our classroom. As always, reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any concerns or questions.
We have had a lot of sickness going around our classrooms recently. We are trying to stay on top of cleaning their desk with Clorox wipes, reminding them to wash their hands, and to cover their coughs and sneezes.
