HOPE Week at HMS January 9-13
Hope week is sponsored by HMS Hope Squad. They have organized a "Back to School" Spirit Week on January 9-13. Student dress up days are as follows:
- Monday, 1/9--Pajama Day
- Tuesday, 1/10--Favorite Movie Day (Dress as a character in your favorite movie)
- Wednesday, 1/11--Heroes/Villains Day (dress as a hero or villain)
- Thursday, 1/12-- One Color Day (dress in as much of this color as you can)
- 6th Grade-Purple
- 7th Grade-Blue
- 8th Grade-Black
- Adults-Grey
- Friday, 1/13- Dress as your favorite teacher

Students returned to the cafeteria set up for cold and rainy day recess options. Ping Pong is a popular option for some at lunchtime.
You wanna Foos?
Foosball, which has been sidelined for most of the year as we were trying to get a part for the table, made a triumphant return to the cafeteria in January. Coming in Spring: The HMS World Cup Tournament! Details coming soon!
After School Program Information
After School Program (ASP) at Hoquiam Middle School meets at 3:00 pm in the Middle School Library. It will run until 5:00 pm and is open to all Middle School Students. After School Program for HMS is under the direction of Shawn Larsen. Several activities are being planned, but the activities planned will give students a chance to express themselves and give more students a chance to be involved in student created clubs. The format for each day will be:
- 3:00-4:00 will be Study Table and homework help. Tutors are being recruited.
- 4:00-5:00 Activity and Club time.
Congratulations to our December Rotary Students of the Month and Perfect Attendance Recognition
December Rotary Students of the Month:
- Emily Brodhead- Parents: Jack and Beth Brodhead. Emily is very involved in activities and in the classroom, as well as being a very good student, and citizen at HMS. She is the HMS School President, and a member of the leadership class. She participates in Wrestling, Soccer, Volleyball and Track. Emily loves cooking, and playing sports. She is proud of her position as a leader, and thus, Leadership is her favorite class at HMS. Emily is looking forward to the greater choice of classes, being a part of ASB, the dances and traditions, and taking part in high school sports as she transitions to the high school next year.
- Ryker Maxfield-Parents Brock and Amber Maxfield. Ryker is recognized for being a very good student, involved in a variety of activities, his leadership, and being a person that anyone can talk to. Ryker is involved with basketball, both at the school and as a member of a Select team. He also participates in Track, and Band, and will be a member of the leadership class. His favorite class at HMS is History with Ms. Folkers. In his spare time Ryker plays basketball (he could play all day long), plays video games, and the piano. Ryker is most proud of being someone people can talk to, he is proud of his grades, and the hard work he has put into sports. He is most looking forward to greater freedom, bigger choices of classes, and the opportunity to interact with more people at HHS.
