A grand day out

York Castle Museum

Our Reception class had a fantastic day at the York Castle Museum learning about how life in the past compares with today. The children were excellent ambassadors for the school, showing a keen interest and displaying their lovely manners, however, they did still have a short stint behind bars in the Castle Prison! Although the children very much enjoyed sitting at the little desks in the Victorian classroom, I am pleased to report that it was unanimously agreed that school today is far better - phew! The highlight of the visit was being able to play with replicas of Victorian toys and these certainly seemed to generate as much fun as the toys we might find today. What a super day out we had!

King and Queen for the Day

On Thursday, Year 4 welcomed two very special visitors. After three times table competitions, they crowned their king and queen. The king and queen sat comfortably on their thrones all day and even had their own special dining table in the lunch hall. It was a royal day for all!

Class of 2023

On Wednesday evening, parents and children from our Year 6 class came to school for a special celebration. We presented the children's leaver hoodies along with word clouds that included words and phrases that described each individual in Year 6. Children shared their memories of their time at Ripon Cathedral School and we also enjoyed looking back on pictures from Reception through to Year 6.

Fabulous Forest schools in Year 3

On transition days our 'new Year 3' class enjoyed a fabulous afternoon of Forest Schools. They used tools to make implements and enjoyed toasting marshmallows.

Lindisfarne Film

Following our visit to Lindisfarne we have made a film which includes photographs and some bits of film. We would love to share this with parents and carers and the children. Therefore we are inviting parents and carers to stay after the celebration worship on Thursday 20th July next week to see the film.

Habitats in Year 2

This week Year 2 have been learning about living things and their habitats. The children explored the living things they could find in the forest school area, such as woodlice, centipedes, spiders and many different plants. They also identified 'microhabitats' such as, under logs, under stones, in the mud kitchen and in the giant tyres. Children then created their own habitats from shoeboxes, thinking carefully about how each one provided what was needed for the animal to survive.

Great outcomes

We are very proud of all of Year 6 who tried so hard in all of their end of Key Stage assessments.

The school has once again performed well with outcomes being above national averages in reading, writing and mathematics. The proportion of children attaining the expected standard in reading was 14% above national and 7% above in mathematics. Well done to all Year 6.
