North Star Newsletter December 2024
A message from Mr. Horning, Head of School
Happy Holidays North Star,
I’m not sure why, but I always sit down to write this when our elementary students are getting off the bus in the morning. Nothing brings joy to educators like smiling students excited about coming to school. I enjoy watching our administrators out greeting families and helping students out of the car. Teachers are standing at the doors with big smiles on their faces welcoming students on these cold foggy mornings. It brings joy to my day and I feel lucky to have a job where students brighten my day each and every morning.
The Holiday Hustle is right around the corner, and our last few weeks are packed with athletic events, student performances, and family activities. Enjoy and embrace the time you have to celebrate your students and all that North Star has to offer.
With only a few days left until break, please check in on your student’s progress and ensure they are finishing strong. Teachers are available via email to answer your questions, so you can provide support at home.
Please take a minute to look through the newsletter as there is so much to celebrate once again. As we get closer to the end of the calendar year, I want to remind you one last time that our annual fund is coming to a close. A huge thank you to those who have already given. As you will see below, we have a generous matching gift opportunity going on right now that will allow you to triple your gift and push us to the finish line. Please consider how your family can participate. Participation is very important to support the overall strength of North Star and is a metric often asked for by outside funding agencies. Your contribution will not only help with much needed facility and classroom needs, but shows the strength and support we have in our community.
Thank you all for a wonderful fall. Happy Holidays from all of us here at North Star.
Let’s finish strong and get ready for a New Year!!!
Thank you,
AH

MATCH opportunity - Triple your impact by Dec 31!
As we approach the end of the year, we want to thank everyone who has already contributed to North Star’s Annual Fund. Your contributions have made a meaningful difference and brought us closer to reaching our $120,000 goal.
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news! A generous donor has offered a 2:1 matching gift opportunity to help us meet our goal. For every $1 donated, this donor will give $2—tripling your impact! Starting Dec 9, if we collectively raise $15,000 by December 31, their $30,000 match will push us to the finish line, allowing us to fund critical updates to our facility and provide the classroom resources needed to enhance students’ learning experience.
This is a remarkable opportunity for North Star, but it relies on participation from every family. Imagine the impact if each of us gave what we could—whether it’s $10, $50, or $500—every gift matters and adds up quickly. The strength of our community lies not in equal giving but in equal effort.
Let’s rally together to make the most of this matching opportunity. Click HERE to make your tax-deductible gift today.
Thank you again to those who have already given. You are leading the way and inspiring others to join in. Let’s finish this year strong, together!

Meet our HS Girls' Basketball Coaches!
Meet our HS Girls' Basketball coaches, Coach Emma Anthony (left) and Coach Claire Bonnet (right).
"Our favorite part about coaching is being able to give back to the sport that gave us so much. We both enjoy teaching the girls new skills and seeing them progress over the course of the season. The North Star girls are such a fun group to coach and are always eager to learn and get better."

PTO Happenings
PTO Hosts Santa at North Star!
PTO hosted a very special guest on November 30. Santa made a trip to North Star. It was a very fun way to get in the Christmas spirit and we appreciate all the families who attended!
Pizza Friday Half-Year Link
The second half of the year is quickly approaching! If you didn't purchase pizza for the whole year and you would like to "set it and forget it," now is your chance! From now until the end of December, you will be able to purchase pizza for the second half of the year- which is January-May. We will still have weekly options to purchase for the remainder of the year as well.
Elementary Pizza Order for December & January
Donut Sales -- December 20th [Secondary Only]
In lieu of Pizza Friday on December 20th, PTO will be selling donuts for breakfast! Donuts will be $1 each and PTO will be serving them from 7:30-11:00am. Donut sales will be cash only.
Spirit Night at Westside Pizza -- January 3rd
Skip the meal planning and come enjoy dinner at Westside Pizza on Friday, January 3rd from 4-9pm! A portion of sales will be donated back to North Star PTO!
Family Tubing -- January 6th
Bring the whole family for tubing at Gateway Parks Eagle Island on Monday, January 6 (non-student day). PTO has rented the facility for two sessions. 4:00-5:30 and 5:45-7:15. We are encouraging families with younger children to attend the first session and families with older children to attend the second. However, we realize that many families have children in a wide range of ages so that is merely a suggestion. This event will be a blast for the whole family!
Tickets are only $15/person. PTO is paying a portion of the original ticket price to make this event fun and affordable! Please only select one session as this event is expected to fill up. We'd like as many families to participate as we can! You must complete one waiver for each participant. In order to make this as streamlined as possible for our volunteers, please complete the waiver when you purchase your tubing tickets.
Eagle Day of Service
North Star will be hosting Eagle's first Day of Service on Monday, January 20th. Stay tuned for how to get involved!
