Message from Principal Collins
Thank you to all of the families that came out to our open house. It was great seeing and interacting with all the families. This week all of our scholars took the math and reading iReady assessment. I am very proud of how our scholars took their time and really focused on taking the assessment. When I spoke with my scholars they all knew what their scores were and had set goals to reach before the next testing cycle. Next week during advisory our scholars will complete Character Strong lessons. Our 6th graders will focus on what does it mean to belong? Seventh grade will focus on getting to know each other better and learning about each other. Our 8th graders are going to work on developing community agreements. This week we had the football jamboree, thank you to all of the families who came out to support our Grizzlies. Next week our athletics will start participating with other schools. Come on out and support our kids, they love hearing their fans cheer them on.
I wanted to send this reminder- We continue to work with our scholars on expectations and correct behavior in school. It would be great if you would support our efforts by speaking to your child about saying inappropriate things to others, keeping their hands to themselves, as well as reminding them of BULLYING, and that fighting doesn't resolve anything! We do not like having to implement discipline. However, all of this can be avoided if your child follows school rules and student code of conduct. So please assist us in reinforcing these expectations. If you don't have anything nice and pleasant to say to someone, keep your comments to yourself. Please note that NO form of BULLYING will be tolerated. We have several scholars and staff members who have severe reactions to scents. I know we all like to put on some type of cologne, perfume or scented lotions but we need to make sure everyone in the building can learn in a safe and healthy environment. Please remind your scholars about the no scents in the building. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
ADDITIONALLY, PLEASE MONITOR YOUR CHILD SOCIAL MEDIA POSTING AND ACCOUNTS. A LOT OF WHAT WE DEAL WITH HERE AT SCHOOL STARTS FROM THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA POSTINGS THAT GO UNMONITORED.
Tardies and Lunch Detention: We have been working on ensuring all scholars are on time for ALL classes. Students need to understand the importance of being on time and taking responsibility. We want our scholars to focus on getting to class on time. Please speak to your child about being ON TIME to class this week and moving forward so all can be successful. Students will receive a lunch detention for an accumulation of tardies. Our admin and staff will continue to reinforce clearing halls to make an impact on cutting down on student tardiness.
It’s a new academic year and an opportunity for students to start the year with a clean slate. Encourage your child to establish goals for the year in these areas: Suggest that your child set a goal to be more organized. Provide tools to help, such as folders, binder dividers, sticky notes, and a calendar. Suggest that your child plan to break large assignments into small parts and write down deadlines for each step. That way your middle schooler can tackle one step at a time without getting overwhelmed. Writing- Challenge your middle schooler to strengthen their writing skills by writing in a journal for a few minutes every day. Keeping writing skills sharp will make school-related writing easier. Reading- Reading for pleasure strengthens literacy skills. Help your child create reading goals, such as reading for 15 minutes every night before going to bed. • Extracurricular activities. After-school activities can help students blow off steam and build important skills. Encourage your child to participate in at least one activity this school year. However, remind your child that schoolwork should always be the priority.
At Evergreen, we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is essential for a child’s success. We encourage open communication and involvement from parents/guardians. Your support plays a crucial role in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for our students. As we move forward into this school year, I encourage our scholars to set goals and embrace challenges as opportunities. Together we can create lasting memories and a year of accomplishments and personal growth.
Thank you for being a part of the Grizzly family. We are going to have a fantastic year.
