Olive Vista MS & STEAM Magnet
September 9, 2024
We take the safety and security of our students and our campus very seriously. All statements that raise concerns about the safety of our campus are immediately and thoroughly investigated to ensure the safety of our students.
We would like to take this time to remind students that their actions and words have consequences. This is a reminder to speak with your child that safety is nothing to joke about. We encourage you to speak to your child about the implications of joking or making false statements relating to campus or school safety. We also encourage parents to discuss social media usage with students and being responsible while on-line. Resources are available here: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/articles
A Parent's Guide to Emergencies
Students sharing of false information on social media
Over the weekend and this morning, posts circulated on social media causing anxiety and concern for students and parents and staff in our region. Many students came forward with information of what they saw and authorities were contacted. Law enforcement responded to the information about Olive Vista as well as the dozens of other locations listed on the post.
Law enforcement authorities determined that the threat was unfounded.
This is a reminder to speak with your students that safety is nothing to joke about. We encourage you to speak to your child about the implications of joking or making false statements relating to campus or school safety. We are saddened about the negative impact on our school community but are grateful for those that came forward and provided information.
We continue to encourage our school community to follow our District's message, if you see something, say something. If you have any questions or concerns, please call 818-833-3900.
Tuesday, we will be back to our Tuesday schedule with 2:15 pm dismissal. We encourage all of our students to be at school so that we can celebrate our 25th day of school and Constitution Day by wearing Red, White and Blue.
Please see the flyers posted below for information regarding emergencies. This same flyer was sent home at the start of the school year. To help put everyone at ease and to review our emergency protocols, we will review our Lockdown procedures tomorrow in our ongoing commitment to a safe and secure school.
