The Champion Chatt
September 2024
A Message from the Principal
Champion Families,
The month of August passed in a blink as students and staff were busy building communities within their classrooms and learning/practicing being a Respectful, Responsible, Problem-Solving Champion. The PBIS color teams are well on their way to earning tokens as they model these attributes each week, and we are all looking forward to our first Color Teams Day on September 20th.
Speaking of looking forward…This week marks the kick-off to our CHAMP STRONG PTO fundraising campaign. Thank you to all of the families who have already supported this campaign with donations. Information for pledge pages and the pledge website can be found below in this publication.
The month of September is foundational in the life of our school. Students have completed all baseline assessments and teachers have determined instructional strategies to best meet the needs of students where they are currently. Our dedicated intervention time, WIN (What I Need) begins this month. During WIN time each day, students and teachers work to fill skills gaps and enrich learning through the application of skills. WIN time is a critical piece to student learning and we appreciate all students arriving at school on time each morning so as not to miss this personalized learning time.
As a reminder, beginning Tuesday, September 3rd, we will welcome lunch visitors and classroom volunteers. All visitors will check-in at the front and must have a valid picture ID in order to enter the building. After checking in at the front desk, lunch visitors will wait in the hallway outside the cafeteria for their students and will find a seat at the designated visitor tables located on the stage and in front of the cafeteria. As a reminder, families may eat lunch with their children only. Visitors will exit through the front lobby at the end of the lunch period, and students will return to class.
Classroom volunteers may also begin coming into the building based on teacher/staff needs. Each teacher will determine when, how often and how many parent volunteers will be needed to support activities for their students. If you are seeking out opportunities to volunteer, please reach out to your child’s teacher directly. All school and classroom volunteers should visit our school website for more information. We look forward to having you in our building.
We are excited for our first meeting of the Chattahoochee Local School Council (9/10), look forward to welcoming all of our Chattahoochee parents on Curriculum Night (9/12), and anticipate a refreshing Fall Break at the end of the month (9/23-9/27)!
With appreciation,
Jill Short

Mathematics
Eureka Math2 Family Math is a letter to families that describes the major concepts within various grade level math topics. Each letter uses words and phrases that should be familiar to students from the lessons in the topic. The letters also include visual supports that students can use to help explain the concepts or strategies they are learning in school. Family Math also includes simple and practical at-home activities to extend learning and help students see mathematics in the world.
Literacy
Encouraging a love for reading and strong literacy skills is essential for our students' success. Please join us on Thursday, September 12th, from 5:30 - 7:00 PM for Curriculum Night, where you'll have the opportunity to learn more about our literacy initiatives and how you can support your child's learning journey at home. At Curriculum Night, you will have the opportunity to learn about the specific grade-level curriculum for your child(ren) and Forsyth County’s updated report card for English Language Arts. We look forward to seeing you there!
Technology
Forsyth County Schools is partnering with Neptune Navigate to provide lessons focusing on digital citizenship. Each month will dig into a different topic. Champions have been learning how to be great digital citizens. That means students are safe, respectful, and responsible when they use devices at school and at home.
At Chattahoochee, we TRUST that our students are responsible users of technology. Students:
Think about privacy before posting,
Recognize others’ work and ideas,
Unleash learning with technology,
Stand up to inappropriate use,
Treat myself and others with respect.
As a family, continue the conversation about responsible use of technology and digital citizenship. Here are some suggested questions you can bring up with your children: Why is it important for you to be smart and safe online? Can you think of some things the internet is good for? How about what it’s bad for? How can you tell if someone is a stranger? How can you tell if someone is a stranger online? What does it mean to be responsible in the online world?
Family Engagement
It’s been a wonderful start to our school year! Our students and families bring us so much JOY. From the start of our day smiling and waving in the bus drop off and car line to fun and engaging moments throughout our classrooms, JOY is the feeling that radiates throughout Chattahoochee. We are so excited to welcome families into our school with volunteer opportunities, our WATCH D.O.G.S. Program, and lunch visitors. You will feel the JOY as you enter our building. We look forward to seeing you and continuing our partnership together. We are here to support you and your family. Please contact Belinda or Kim if we can help in any way. Thank you for sharing your child with us and for sharing in our JOY!
