Harlan's Happening

Remembering Mr. Martin
Last week, our school experienced the heartbreaking loss of a valued colleague, teacher, and friend, Mr. Martin. As a dedicated special education teacher, his unwavering commitment to education and the positive impact he made in our community will be deeply missed.
We recognize that this unexpected loss may be difficult for many students to process, and some may need additional support during this time. To help everyone navigate their grief, we are offering extra resources and making counselors available throughout the week.
We ask that you keep Mr. Martin's family, friends, and our school community in your thoughts as we come together to support one another through this challenging time.
In honor of Mr. John "Marty" Martin Jr.’s life and legacy, we invite everyone to join us this Friday, November 22nd, by wearing his favorite colors—crimson and cream (or red and white)—as we celebrate and remember his remarkable contributions to our school.
Thank you for helping us honor his memory and supporting one another during this time of loss.

Community Schools Corner
Hi, I'm Daneya Jacobs!
I am the Community School Site Coordinator with Children & Families First at Harlan Elementary School. When I’m not working with Ms. Talley to create meaningful events and opportunities for families to access resources that support their overall well-being and set students up for success, I run a small business—a venture I’ve been invested in for over 10 years.
Each month, I’ll be sharing easy-to-implement business and financial tips that you can start using today. If you have questions or want more business and financial resources, feel free to email me at Daneya.Jacobs@cffde.org.
As the holidays approach and finances might get a bit tight, here are three easy businesses you can start right away to monetize your skills while still raising your own kids:
1. Bake Extra Pies
The holiday season is the perfect time to put your baking skills to use. Whether it's classic apple pies, pumpkin pies, or a family favorite, there’s always a market for delicious homemade treats. You can offer them to friends, neighbors, or even at local holiday events.
2. Offer to Babysit
Many parents are in need of extra help during the busy holiday season. If you have experience with kids, offering babysitting services can be a flexible way to earn extra income while helping other families. Advertise in your neighborhood or through social media groups for local parents.
3. Style Hair
If you have a knack for hair styling, this is a great opportunity to assist families looking to get ready for holiday parties and events. Simple services like braiding, styling, or even offering haircuts can be done from home or by appointment, making it a family-friendly business option.
Let’s make this holiday season a time of opportunity and growth!
Mrs. Talley and I have created a parent survey to get to know our Harlan Elementary families better. Please take a few minutes to complete it—your feedback will help shape the events we host in the new year!
