Principal Senethavilay's Update
August 1, 2024
Welcome Back and Quick Update
PVE Families,
Welcome to Pleasant View! We are so glad to have you here. If you are new to the school, we are thrilled to have you join an incredible team of dedicated professionals who put students first! If you are new to Idaho, WELCOME! Having lived here my entire life, I may be slightly biased, but this is a fantastic place to raise a family and enjoy a strong sense of community.
As a quick introduction for those new to PVE, I am Amy Senethavilay (Sen-ta-vil-ay). I have been immensely blessed to serve West Ada students and families for the past 28 years. I am also a mother to two adult boys, a wife, a traveler, an avid reader and book editor, a lover of music and concerts, and someone who enjoys meeting new people and experiencing new cultures and cuisines. The bucket list is filled with places to visit and adventures yet to have.
Since you entrust your children and their education to this excellent staff and me, I want you to know that I value a culture of open communication. My email is readily available, and I love hearing from parents with ideas, suggestions, and concerns. I am all about problem-solving together. This staff believes collaboration with our families is critical, and decision-making focuses on what is best for students. Thank you for partnering with us!
We have been working hard this summer to add members to this team and prepare for the growth we are experiencing. We look forward to introducing you to them very soon.
If you have not liked our Facebook page, please do so now. We love to share celebrations and event posts with you. https://www.facebook.com/PleasantViewElem
We are also on Instagram at Pleasant View Elementary (@pleasantviewelem) • Instagram photos and videos.
School begins on August 14. Please ensure you have updated your PowerSchool information--as this will be how you can see your child's teacher. Please note it is a LATE START day.
*Class lists remain in flux as we register and add students to our enrollment. We will work to have those lists solidified a day or two before school starts. Again, lists are tentative.
I also included the links to several important sites:
- Curriculum I get many calls and questions about curriculum, especially from our new families moving into the state.
- This link will give you an excellent overview of the standards covered throughout the year.
- Elementary Handbook
- Health Services You will locate information about immunizations, clinics, and flow charts.
- School Nutrition Site with the Free and Reduced Form is also available if you need assistance, and the LINQ Connect Portal to set up a food account.
- School Supply List Please note that your child may need to replenish items from this list throughout the year. Please think ahead and plan for those replacements while supplies are on sale.
- School Transportation Bussing information should be available about a week before school.
We will send a very ROBUST Welcome Newsletter soon, covering the overall operations and FAQs for PVE. We are looking forward to welcoming you to PVE this fall. Until then, enjoy your time together, and we will see you soon!
Please help out any of your new neighbors who have moved in and need to register: Enrollment | West Ada School District. You may also forward this information to them.
Sincerely,
Amy Senethavilay
WHOLE SCHOOL MEET AND GREET AUGUST 12
We are so excited to welcome you to the new school year. Our Meet and Greet will be an open house style. Please come and go as needed; however, we have divided the times to help alleviate the congestion, due to our very large enrollment, and to give our teachers more time to connect with everyone. If you cannot attend the timeframe for the last name, please do not worry. You are welcome to come between the established hours.
Once you have completed your classroom visit, the PTA will have Kona Ice available for sale. You are welcome to enjoy a cool treat, mingle with friends, and get to know some of the new families who have joined our community.
- 2:00-2:30 A-I
- 2:30-3:00 J-R
- 3:00-3:30 S-Z
- 3:30-4:00 New to PVE
(Have students with multiple last names? We understand and ask you to choose one time for your family.)
Helpful information:
- This event is meant to be a quick look at where your child's classroom is located, meet the teacher, and drop off supplies. Please note that this is not an appropriate time for a conference. If you feel the teacher needs more time with you to hear about specific needs for your child, we ask that you email the teacher to set an appointment.
- Arrive at the beginning of your time slot.
- Enter the building at the main entrance and exit the closest hallway doors to help alleviate traffic in the halls.
- Have student supplies already labeled before coming to Meet and Greet.
- If you ordered supplies through the PTA, pick up is in the cafeteria prior to going to the classroom. Tables will also be set up so you can label your child's items before your visit.
- Also, please be prepared to share with the teacher how your child will get home each day.
- We are ending promptly at 4:00 to allow staff to get rooms back in order and end their day.
We cannot accommodate separate requests to meet with staff. They will be in training before this time and the following day.
*We understand that you may have much information to share with a teacher, but please schedule a separate meeting or send a detailed email regarding your student's needs.
Thank you for understanding

TRANSPORTATION
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES FOR BUSSING
Bus Request Deadline: July 31st.
Eligible students needing a bus during the 2024-2025 school year must fill out the Request for Transportation form when registering for school. Bus stop assignments will be available in early-August in the My Ride K-12 app. New stops will not be added during the first 2 weeks of school, however eligible students will be allowed to use existing stops during that initial window.
Who can ride the bus?
Transportation is provided for students who live in the bus zone (i.e. over 1.5 miles to their appropriate school). Non-bus zones are based on a 1.5 mile distance utilizing pathways, neighborhood streets, and arterial streets with sidewalks and crosswalks. Consideration is given to hazards. For more information regarding busing eligibility, please visit the following link: West Ada School District - Attendance Areas.
RFID Badges
We're excited to introduce a new initiative designed to enhance the safety and efficiency of our school bus transportation services. Students at all levels will begin carrying a Bus Badge when boarding the bus. Parents will have access to information through the My Ride K-12 app when students scan on and off the bus.
My Ride K-12
My Ride K-12 is our primary communication for bussing needs. Push notifications about late buses or any vital information that is pertaining to your child's bus information will be sent via the My Ride K-12 message center. Bus stop assignments will be available in early-August in the My Ride K-12 app.
SCHOOL LUNCH ACCOUNTS
WASD utilizes LINQ Connect to support student accounts for breakfast/lunch. Setting up a LINQ Connect account is free. From your account, you can monitor your student's activity, view menus, add funds (credit card only, transaction fee applies), and apply for free/reduced lunch.
Payments can also be made directly to the Kitchen with cash or check (payable to School Nutrition). There are no transaction fees associated with these types of payment.
If you would like to set up your child's lunch account, please use this LINK.
We ask that you work to keep your child's account current to save valuable staff time from having to make calls regarding delinquent balances.
Free & Reduced Lunch Program Application is Now Online!
The applications for free/reduced meals are now open. Families can visit LINQ Connect - Making Schools Stronger to fill out an application to see if they qualify for free or reduced school breakfast and lunch. In addition, families may use the same link to add money to their student’s meal/nutrition account.
