Weekly Tips for Parents
Share strategies for friendly conversations
One helpful part of making friends, at school or anywhere, is knowing how to start a conversation and keep one going. Teach your teen conversation openers such as "I really like your…" or "Do you know what I learned (saw, did) today?" Then, your teen can add to a conversation by asking open-ended questions like "What do you think of…?" or "How come…?" Explain that making eye contact and staying calm shows interest and will put others at ease.

Don't let your teen trade personal goals for popularity
By the time they're teens, many kids think they have to be good looking, perfect or popular to be happy. They may suppress their own needs, wants and talents, and stop pursuing their own goals. Discuss the ways real life differs from stereotypes in popular media. Help your teen develop a strong sense of personal identity by introducing a variety of activities and experiences and providing unconditional love.

Mentoring gives teens a chance to be role models
Children need good role models, and teens can make great ones. Mentoring a younger child can bring out caring and responsibility traits in your teen, and it may even count toward a school service requirement. Help your student find mentoring opportunities, such as coaching a sports team, joining a scouting program or tutoring at an area school. Have your teen ask teachers for ideas, too.

Greetings Berkmar family, let’s congratulate our girls flag football team on their 2 victories Wednesday, October 30th in our region matchups. Our girls defeated Norcross 24-6 in our first game. Our second game we defeated Parkview 12-6. We are now #2 in our region with a 3-1 record and 8-5 overall. We had 2 girls out due to injuries, but our other 11 girls stepped up…. Go Pats….
The Swim and Dive team kicked off their season with a WIN SOUTH. We are beyond PROUD of this team and all of their hard work. Returning swimmers truly did step up with Patriot Pride and helped our new teammates. Ivan Tran qualified for the county the 50 and 100 free. The male swimmer of the meet was Aiden Diaz Hernandez who challenged himself with a new event. The female swimmer of the meet was Mallory Marquez who swam in her first meet and did it with the most positive attitude. Lastly, a BIG shout out to our meet volunteers (Beta club) and parents who came to support. #believeintheB! #berkmarfamily

💊 Prescription Drug Drop-off 💊
“Big White Box”
Accessible to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the Lilburn Police Department lobby located at 4600 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn, GA 30047.
Prescription drug abuse among all age groups is a real and growing danger across the country. In addition, unsafe disposal of Rx and over-the-counter (OTC) medications is costly to our environment and, therefore, to our health. The “Big White Box” helps keep these drugs out of the hands of children and teens, off the street, prevent overdoses and accidental poisonings, and avoid environmental contamination caused by throwing drugs in the toilet, sink, or trash.
