LACROSSE RESULTS
The Knights kicked off the new lacrosse season in exciting fashion last Saturday downing Moorhead 6-5 in overtime at the East/West Showdown in White Bear Lake. Freddie Bankston (12) got the game winner with just over one minute remaining in overtime to unleash the celebration. It was the defense, however, that provided the spark for the Knights. The defensive unit held the Spuds, who appeared in last year's state tournament, to just 5 goals and pushed the Moorhead offense back in a dominating first half performance. The Knights killed off several penalties in the second half and gave the offense the chance to make a play late in overtime. The win helped avenge a loss to the Spuds back in 2022 in Moorhead. The JV team also won in a nail biter 4-3 in another defensive battle.
Irondale took that momentum into their first home game last night against SEC opponent Cretin Derham Hall, but unfortunately ended up on the wrong side of another one goal game. The Raiders came back from three down early in the second half to edge the Knights and go 2-0 on the year. It was a much different story from last year when the Raiders dominated in a 14-2 win. The turnaround can be partially attributed to the Knights success at the face off dot. Grant Hartin (10) and Caden Nelson (10) won an impressive 15 of 24 faceoffs giving Irondale the chances they needed. They will need that success again on Thursday night against the Mustangs. Both teams come into the game 1-1 with Mounds View having lost Tuesday night to top ranked East Ridge 14-8.
TOMORROW NIGHT! Irondale @ Mounds View - Thursday, April 17, 5:30 & 7:00 p.m.
