4th and 5th Grade Music Concerts
Fourth and Fifth graders recently performed a variety of songs from around the world. Both performing groups gave it their all, and we were thrilled to share our passion for music with such an enthusiastic and appreciative audiences.
Fourth Grade and The American Revolution
In an exciting blast from the past, our 4th graders recently dove into the world of the American Revolution! They explored the perspectives of Patriots and Loyalists, crafting opinions and reasons. With their broadsides in hand, they engaged in spirited debates, showcasing their understanding of this crucial time in history. It was a culmination of their opinion writing skills, and they truly shined!
Day in the Arts
Hanawalt’s A Day in the Arts is just around the corner! All students will participate in ADITA tomorrow. Their school day will be filled with art workshops and a fun musical assembly. Each grade level will experience different workshops.
A newsletter went home to give you more information about our artists, and what grade is experiencing what workshops. Our students are getting so excited! Tomorrow would be a great day to dress your student in clothes that can get paint or glitter on them. Some of our workshops will be messy!

5TH GRADE LEGACY PROJECT
Every year the fifth graders work with their art teacher, Mrs. Sarah Sheeley, on creating a special piece of artwork to commemorate their class. This year they had the amazing opportunity to have a piano donated by Ginny Malcomson, a Mom of a previous Hanawalt student! 5th graders came together and decided to break the piano up into geometric shapes - each one to be filled in by a student in order to depict their favorite memories of being at Hanawalt. They also dedicated a few areas to show tribute to a previous Hanawalt student , Max Newkirk, who passed away this last Summer. The piano is a stunning tribute to so many amazing students and memories made here at Hanawalt!
LITTLE ART LIBRARY
The 5th grade Girl Scouts created a little art library to give to the school for Day in the Arts! They created a rough design and are working with local carpenter Jack Ryan owner of Floral Hill Carpentry for the shelf itself. The Girl Scouts went to 5 Monkeys in Valley Junction to paint tiles they used to mosaic on the outside. This free little art library is a space where you can share your handmade art and take home art created by your fellow students. Use whatever artistic expression inspires you: drawings, paintings, crafts, jewelry, and small sculptures are some examples. Please exchange one piece at a time. We love your art!
