Solar Eclipse No School Monday, April 8th
In observance of the Great American Eclipse, the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) will have an independent learning day for students and school-based employees on Monday, April 8, 2024.
The independent learning day activities will provide safe viewing and instructional opportunities to experience the partial solar eclipse. Although Georgia is not in the solar eclipse path, you will be able to see a partial eclipse, which is expected to begin at 1:45 p.m. and end at 4:21 p.m. Even with a partial eclipse, everyone must protect their eyes by wearing eclipse-viewing glasses. Please visit https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/safety/ for more safety tips.
Fernbank Science Center will also host a solar eclipse community event on Monday, April 8, 2024. The Fernbank Science Center will open to the public at 12:00 noon and close at 5:00 pm. Solar eclipse viewers will be available for attendees during the community event while supplies last. All students, parents, staff, and stakeholders are invited to join us in experiencing this phenomenal event. Fernbank Science Center will offer viewing stations with solar-filtered telescopes, hands-on science/STEM activities, and free planetarium shows throughout the day during the eclipse.

Exceptional Education Parent Survey
In collaboration with the Georgia State Department of Education, the Department of Exceptional Education will conduct a 2024 parent satisfaction survey for parents and guardians of students with disabilities. As always, our goal is to partner with families to raise the achievement and graduation rates of students with disabilities.
The Parent Satisfaction Survey helps the District and the State to measure the success of parent engagement with the local schools and to determine how to better address parent/family needs. The survey consists of 10 statements and will be open to all families of students with disabilities.
