Dia de Los Muertos Celebration
Laurene Edmondson will be celebrating Dia de Los Muertos this year, which is a holiday that is celebrated primarily in Mexico and Latin America. Traditionally, on November 1 and 2, families honor their ancestors that have passed away in a celebration of their memory. Day of the Dead is a sort of joyful family reunion with the deceased as guests of honor.
We will be having a school wide presentation Friday November 1st, sharing why and how this traditional holiday is celebrated. During the school week of October 28-November 1st, we are also going to have an "Ofrenda" (altar)- to commemorate our ancestors. If you would like to celebrate with us, we are asking families to send in 1 small paper copy of a picture (4x6" or smaller) of a loved one that you would like to celebrate to place on the Ofrenda. If you have 2 people you would like to honor, please put both pictures on the same 4x6" sheet. You may also contribute a small object ( 1.5"x1.5" or smaller) taped or glued to a 4x6" or smaller note card that represents something about your loved one (or something he/she liked).
Pictures and/or objects are due Monday October 28th. Please add the child's name and teacher to the back of the picture/card with object so that we can return them once the Ofrenda is taken down.
***While we would love to ensure that all pictures are safely returned to you, a paper copy of the picture would be best as we don’t want anything to happen to anyone's original pictures. We can’t be responsible for pictures that might not make it back to you. If you need to make a paper copy please ask the office.***

Free and Reduced Information
For the 2024/25 school year, the Thompson School District will provide access to no-cost meals for all students through the Healthy School Meals for All program.
Research shows students perform better at school when they are not hungry. By providing access to breakfast and lunch for all students at no cost, we better support their learning.
Although all students will receive access to no-cost meals, it's still important for households to provide their income information when requested. Gathering this information allows the Thompson School District to receive the state and federal funding we qualify for. These funds go directly to schools to help cover the cost of meals and support after-school activities and other nutritional programs for students. Plus, qualifying households may be eligible for Summer EBT benefits, receive discounted or waived school fees, class materials, utilities support, and more.
Providing household income information ensures you and your school receive all available financial support.
The attachments contain more information and forms to provide your household income information. While the following pages may reference eligibility for free or reduced-price school meals, access to breakfast and lunch will be provided free to all students regardless of household income.
Our school meals follow U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for healthy school meals. You can be confident your children are getting quality school meals while saving your family time and money.
