Parent Newsletter - August 11, 2023
We enjoyed seeing and visiting with many of your at the Curriculum Night Tuesday. If you were unable to make it, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher anytime via email, phone or to schedule a time to meet.
It has been another busy week on campus as everyone settles into classes and routines. Our next big event is our Grizzly Fest on August 25th. As our building is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year (opening in 1994), Student Council chose the theme "Blast From the Past" with a specific 90's focus. Encourage your child to plan out their attire for Spirit Week starting on 8/21!
Below are a few reminders and details on Grizzly Fest and other upcoming events:
Student Council has planned a Spirit Week leading up to Grizzly Fest.
Monday August 21 - Character Day (Dress like a character in a movie, book, video game, etc.)
Tuesday August 22 - 90's Icon (Dress up like a 90's celebrity, musician, etc.)
Wednesday August 23 - Dress Like You Are 30 (Image what it would look like to be 30!)
Thursday August 24 - 90's Teens Accessories & Styles (Crimped hair, scrunchies, Denim)
Friday August 25 - Monochrome Day (Dress in the same color)
Our first Grizzly Fest of the year is coming on Friday August 25th. This is a fun event for students after school, planned and coordinated by our Student Council. Staff participate and supervise throughout the event which is from 3:45-5:30pm (directly after school). There will be no cost to attend and for games, but there will be cost for snacks and one special activity. Look for the Grizzly Fest flyer coming soon for specific details!
Our Club Information Day is coming on August 29th. At lunch, students will have an opportunity to learn about 2023/2024 clubs. They will also be able to recommend clubs to our staff. Look for more information to come following the event.
Our PTRO group will be meeting again September 6th at 11:00am. Please save the date to participate in planning some fun activities around our school. Reach out to our PTRO president Sarah Greene at sarah@greenfieldjr.org with any questions.
Picture Re-Take Day is September 20th. Only students requesting a retake will have a picture taken. Pictures can be purchased at the following online link: https://www.prepaysystems.com/events/jg-0cxM1/lou-coopey-s-all-pro-school-pictures?all
Have a great weekend!

Optional Chromebook Device Protection Plan
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The district offers an incredible Chromebook Device Protection Plan (DPP) to cover the cost of Chromebook repairs, such as broken screens and missing keys. If you have not already enrolled, please take a moment to learn more about it. This optional $25 plan covers unlimited accidental damage to the Chromebook, as well as theft of the device. It does not cover the charging cord, vandalism, or loss. Here’s the best part: if the protection plan is not used, it will roll over to the next school year (and subsequent school years) as long as the student remains in Gilbert Public Schools.
The DPP can be purchased online through InTouch (see direction below) or by paying in the front office with cash, check, or debit/credit card. The deadline to enroll is Friday, August 31. (InTouch should display a $0 charge if the DPP rolled over from last year.)
Please read through the Device Protection Plan in further detail to see if this would work for your family. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the librarian/media technician, Mrs. Searle, at 480-8131770 x1321 or anna.searle@gilbertschools.net.

GPS Student Handbook - District and School Rules
The Junior High Student Handbook is available on the district website. This handbook outlines our procedures, activities, rules, etc. Please be sure you and your student take time to review these important guidelines to ensure your student’s success at GrJHS. Please take the time to review the attached student dress code policy; it is important for our students and parents to understand the expectations of the dress code before they start purchasing new clothes for the new school year.
