Freshman Conferences Are Underway!
We're excited to announce that individual conferences for all 9th-grade students are beginning soon! These meetings provide a wonderful opportunity for students to build rapport with their counselors and discuss important topics such as graduation requirements, career and college portfolio expectations, and available resources within the school.
Senior Conferences Update
Senior conferences are mostly wrapped up, and those applying to colleges are making great progress! With two important deadlines near—November 1st and November 15th—it's crucial for seniors to finalize and submit their applications. Remember, each senior must submit a pink form for every college they are applying to at least 10 school days before their respective deadlines. Pink forms can be accessed through each student’s Naviance account.
Seniors who would like their 1st marking period grades to be sent to college should fill in the senior 1st MP grade request form by November 15th. Report cards will be available on November 15th and the requests to send grade reports will be processed as soon as possible at that date. Please note that with Naviance's one and done system, if you request a grade report for one of your Common App schools, your first marking period grades will be automatically send to every school you have applied to through the Common App. It is typically not required by colleges to send 1st MP grades, but a few reasons to send your 1st MP report card include:
- You have not received an admissions decision yet and your 1st MP grades are really strong
- Your school has asked you for additional information or you are possibly on the waitlist
- You have not reached the application deadline yet and your 1st MP grades are really strong
Post Secondary Planning
PSAT Update
The junior class successfully completed their PSAT on October 16th! Our 11th graders recently took the PSAT/NMSQT and scores will be available to students on November 7th through the new BigFuture® School mobile app!
Here’s how it works:
Students who provided their mobile number during digital exam setup will receive a text message when their scores are available. They’ll need their phone number to securely access the app, but no password is required.
In addition to their scores, they’ll see a sample list of growing careers in their state that connect to the math, reading, and writing skills they demonstrated on the PSAT/NMSQT or SAT.
Students can opt in to Connections™ to hear from institutions that may be a good fit.
Students who can’t or don’t want to use the app can still get their scores via a PDF report from their school or by logging in to their College Board account.
The score reports can be used to help students understand where they need to improve and also help develop a testing schedule. Your student's School Counselor will review this during the individual junior conference, starting in the 3rd marking period. This video will help explain your student's score report.
There are lots of free resources for preparing and practicing for the SAT!
First Marking Period Update
It’s hard to believe, but the first marking period ended on October 31st! Report cards will be available in about two weeks, making this a perfect time for students to reflect on their academic progress and set goals for the future.
Consider the following questions:
- Are you feeling challenged but not overwhelmed in your classes?
- Do you need to make any final adjustments? If so, now is a great time to speak with your counselor.
- Do you need to look into a tutor or get additional help from your teacher?
- Have you joined a club or activity to supplement your classroom learning?
Encourage your students to take this opportunity to assess where they are and how they can continue to grow!
Academic Support
Lunch and Learn
Teachers are available every day during Lunch and Learn for additional academic support. Students should take advantage of this time to ensure they are on track with assignments or prepared for an upcoming quiz/test!
Student Tutors
Students who need extra support in a class should consider signing up to get a student tutor. Students can fill in this form and then a tutor will be matched with them.
Outside Tutoring Resources
If you student needs a little bit more support outside of school, an outside tutor (for cost), could also be considered. Please see the attachment below.
College Rep Visits
Meeting with a college representative is a great way to hear more about a college of interest and make connections with student's college representative. Juniors and Seniors must sign up for the college rep visit through their Naviance account. Students should get permission from their teacher prior to attending the visit.
Registered students can pick up their pass to attend from the counseling office the day of the rep visit.
Additional Information and Resources
Clubs!
Students, especially 9th graders, should look for ways to get involved with UHS. Clubs/activities are a great way to help discover passions and interests, can lead towards career paths and are also great to add to college applications! Naviance
Naviance is a college and career readiness software provider that offers students tools to help them plan for college and assess their careers. All UHS students have a Naviance account which they should access each year to support their post-secondary planning.

All students should keep e-hall pass open on their chromebooks. This is how students will receive their pass to the counseling center. This should be checked daily.
